Just got this YAY!(got it for a great deal I thought )

http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h...psc0eb36b6.jpg

Its a Alpha AC1228 gen 2+

I'm having a hard time firgureing out a cost effective mounting solution.

I have a Rhino mount attached to ratch strap on my RBR f6 Mk2 right now but not sure what to use in place of a J-arm.

I'm thinking this would do the trick but I'm not sure (they wont answer my phone calls either :( )

Mmmm. All the pretty toys. I should have a contribution to this thread soon.

you just spent $1200+ on a piece of hardware, and now you want to cheap out on a mount so you can lose it more easily? lol
This was more expensive than I thought it would be at first, too

$1800 for my used d300HP
$320 fast base jump after shipping direct from opscore
$120 for used rhino mount
$90 for issue pvs14 j-arm
$270 for class1 IR laser people wont bitch about

so basically $800 just to fasten it to my head and aim my gun.
$800 is a yukon gen1 nvmt riflescope and an IR laser
all to shoot a few guys in the dark 3 times a year lol

I'm sorry but you pay way more than those are worth. I got mine (brand new) for <$100 shipped to my door (bracket and J-Arm since I use the Wilcox G11. Could've obtained Rhino for <$40)

It's probably those pistol IR like the Crimson trace universal pistol or Lasermax unimax.

ThunderCactus April 11th, 2014 22:18

But does that rhino mount have VERTICAL ADJUSTMENT ON IT?!?!?!
Yeah I thought not lol
J-arms were $90 after shipping from korea, darn things are difficult to find when you don't know people. And both items are ITAR restricted.

The Polymer and Aluminium Norotos USGI legacy mount AFAIK does NOT have height adjustment.

If you are referring to the newer generation of Norotos USGI mount made of Titanium, that one does have height adjustment. (don't think that should be call usgi rhino as it is not the ones you see flooding on the market)

Though imo It's like pile of turd (polymer Rhino) vs ball of turd (aluminium Rhino) vs polished ball of turd (titanium 'Rhino')

ThunderCactus April 11th, 2014 23:15

nope.
issue rhino mount. (it's still called a rhino mount)
totally legit (looked it up REALLY thoroughly since I thought it was fake too)
totally issued.
totally has vertical adjustment.
Guarantee you will never be able to find it's likeness without knowing exactly what it is, WHY it is, and where it came from lol

ThunderCactus April 11th, 2014 23:34

most notably, it doesn't have the patent #, the nameplate is actually on the opposite side and is a riveted plate instead of etched, the NSN number is described as "mount assembly, helmet", hard to see but it has a much longer flappy paddle for adjusting distance from your eye, the center body is painted instead of anodized, and of course the big twisty knobby for adjusting the vertical height
All the fake rhino mount I could look up seem to all have the NSN# 5855-01-457-2953 and no patent # (which is what worried me)

Any guesses as to where I got it? Because I absolutely DEFY you to find a rhino clone that has a vertical adjustment, I never did and I looked for a long time lol

Haven't seen many of those with the U.S. guys I know or have worked with, but I know for a fact pretty much ALL AN/PVS-504 and 504B in the CF were issued with those. It's also what i was given when I needed something to mount the 14 I was loaned by the Americans in the Alberta.

They then refused to take it back from me -____-

I'll get pics of the whole CF mounting system tomorrow if anyone wants them, its been on my helmet for the past 3 years and now resides in my trunk :p

Interesting Rhino, I thought it was the newer gen that the Army issue in certain units (titanium one) Like this
http://www.modarmory.com/images/USGI...mount_gray.jpg

Still stand on my point though. The rhino is pretty poorly designed the fact that the force to overcome system can be move by simply rapid moving of the head is a good indicator.

I run the Wilcox G11. Much more solid design than the rhino. The only wobble that remain is at the j-arm where you can switch between left and right eye (though the switch to the softer o-ring pretty much remove that)

There's also a distinct cost difference I think.

I'm not sure about the units you've used, but I've found all the RHINO I've used to be more than steady enough for field use, CQB and anything else I needed it for (not airsoft)
