Green-based Camo

Hi guys,
I recently got a Tactical Vest to compliment my solid OD combats. However, I find that OD really doesn't camouflage at all, even in dense foliage, like I expected (Not that I play in any dense foliage anyhow, considering how dry it is here in Calgary). I was wondering if there was any kind of Woodland or green-based camo that would go well with my OD TacVest. I'm not spending the money to buy a new vest, though (preferably), only the BDUs. I also prefer digital-type camo, although it doesn't have to be digital.

Any recommendations on a scheme?
All help is appreciated! Thanks!

The US military issued OD kit with US Woodland BDU's (I'm thinking LC2 pistol belts and ALICE gear) so that would be your closest bet.

I read somewhere that CADPAT is 40% more effective than OD. I figure I just need something that breaks up the pattern.

I wear whatever I have handy. I wore a DPM rig on ACU (UCP) last week in a skirmish.
I have an ACU rig bit it's for a pistol and I was fielding an M4.

Either woodland digi (a cheap knockoff of marpat) or actual marpat looks good with OD and cadpat looks great with OD. Infact Multicam looks good with OD.

There's tons and tons of "green" patterns. The most widely available:

-CADPAT
-MARPAT
-Multicam
-British DPU
-UCP (Not very effective)

You can get into more exotic patterns if you'd like to have something different from the crowd. Try looking into European patterns. My favorite sets I have are Russian KLMK Berezka and Swedish M90, both very effective and look awesome.

Have you seen the Mexican camo?

Its basically a digitalish US Woodland. I'll post a pick later.

Marpat I'd best with od
Acu/ucp is only good with foliage green or ucp

Im pretty sure it's pretty much impossible to get (throughout legal means ;) )

Multicam works really well with OD, however multicam is considered a tan camo. Woodland or British DPM are both safe bets. Woodland is very easy to obtain, DPM is sorta easy to find. Anything like AOR2 or A-Tacs FG is not readily available at all yet. And honestly A-Tacs flops in most environments badly. It will go with MarPat, but it's not a green based camp at all. I'd say woodland is your safest choice. Green based, very easy to find, works well.

The ones I saw where more woodland like

I'll post the pic later its from a recent trip to mexico, took allot of pics and its been a long time scanning and saving them all.

But thanks for all the info guys, I'll look into some Woodland MARPAT or British camo.

Thanks again!

Edit: Do you know if France has any Green-based derivatives? Purely because I run with a FAMAS.

Sorry for the double-post, but this technically isn't related to my previous post.

I found two MARPAT schemes.
This: https://www.sealsactiongear.com/cata...p?idProduct=34

And This: https://www.sealsactiongear.com/cata...?idProduct=988

(This is a surplus store, not an Airsoft Retailer, so no need to go about removing links again)

Which would work better with my OD vest? One looks brown-based, and the other, tan-based.

confuzzlement.

Danke February 27th, 2012 18:41

Both those MARPATs are the "same". It's just down to lighting and colour correction in the photos.

Go to a few more games. Check out the guys you can't see and look at what camo they are wearing in your local area.

That MARPAT seems popular with some of the Calgary players that I've met in B.C. I don't know if they were dressed for home or away though.

No mention of Tiger Stripe Camo?

dutch13 February 27th, 2012 19:26

Tru-spec rip stop woodland. Some of my teammates have it and it's awesome. They've washed it several times with no fading whatsoever. Well worth the money and works well with any od kit.

You could use the CCE pattern.

No mention of Surpat at all?
This pattern is by far the best for dry woods, works well in winter and summer. By far one of the best forest patterns in existence.

As much as I hate to recommend it, multicam is a solid option for the calgary area. blends well with the dry grassland areas, and works well in the few woodland areas JOC usually plays in. Eventually you'll want to get a set of green and tan bdu's as that is how most teams are usually split up. You've got a few months/year (not sure when you're 16) to save up for gear.

apparition February 28th, 2012 00:21

seals is not a surplus store FYI. I would recommend the baselayer combat shirts if you decide to go with the Tru-spec stuff from seals. Mainly cause in the summer those "bulkier" Truspec jackets get extremely warm(i know from experience especially with a plate carrier or tac vest). I used an OD plate carrier with them and it worked out great.

Thanks again for all the info guys, I decided to go with CADPAT and support my country.

PATRIOTISM

Again, thanks for everything!

Curo March 4th, 2012 10:55

Cadpat is nice, just you wont find the real stuff so try and get the same brand of stuff so that your colours match.

JLiang March 4th, 2012 13:34

Fully aware. Thanks!

L473ncy March 4th, 2012 13:44

Some old CADPAT BDU's accidentally got surplussed.... Mostly the old 1st gen stuff that faded after the first wash AFAIK. As for alternatives, CP Gear's stuff uses the same material and pattern except without IR coating. Alternatively Drop Zone Tactical makes some cool high quality CADPAT stuff if you can find it (too bad they were bought out recently).

If you want something different, try type 07 camouflage. It's pretty effective both in green areas and tan areas, but especially effective in areas that are a mix of both as seen in this picture.

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...im/ghillie.jpg
Less effective if the whole area is pure green foliage, but still more or less works.

At the end of the day, 1 type of camo will be more effective in certain areas than others. There is no "perfect camo" despite what the manufacturers want you to think.

JLiang March 7th, 2012 00:15

Actually, that Type 07 looks pretty badass. Considering I love Chinese Military stuff, that would be perfect. Thanks!

Btw, if you want real type 07 camo, not Chinese knockoffs, contact josiahleong. He sells the real stuff. However, the cheap stuff also works, but I wouldn't bet on them lasting unless you or a family member knows how to sew.
