Haven't played in years, I feel lost-ontario
What is going on?
1.) Checked in to see some games, and it's mostly empty.. have games moved to Facebook? Reddit? Something else? Or has airsoft died down? 2.) Is vfc not top dog? 3.) What's the Poppin camo? Is everyone still rocking multicam? 4.) Are guardians of Asgard still a team? Who's the teams in Ontario still going? Thanks all... Trying to get back into a game or two |
1) Games are sometimes posted here, sometimes on the ASC FB group. (This place is for the most part pretty dead aside from the classifieds)
2) VFC is still very much top dog, along with LCT 3) Multicam is still go to 4) GoA is still alive. Bunch of us still play, some are retired, some starting to come back out of retirement. |
You are in for quite a surprise. I played back in 2009-10, the days where there were no regular Airsoft venues and most games were invite/ASC only.
Now there are quite a few places around Ontario dedicated to Airsoft. My favourite being Siege Airsoft. You'll also be surprise to see a new class of players, the Speedsofters or SpeedQB players. See video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7TgqtajPno&t=6s Basically a blend of Speedball and Airsoft together. I find there seems to be more SpeedQB teams than Milsim Teams. Back then all those private ASC games were midcaps only. Now most players carry high caps. Of course there are those who still play with Mid caps but you'll find hi-caps are more common. Still I have fun either way. You may hear people say "There are so many cheaters nowadays" or "People aren't calling their hits." it's fine, cause us oldies just have to teach them the "Fire for effect." rule in which we continue shooting them until they call it. Then let the refs know too :) |

I would LOVE to go back to the invite/asc only days. |

High caps? So the noobs won eh? Lol
Siege was still a thing last I left, I just never cared for cqb. Too many shots I wouldn't want to give/take.... Unless it's Picton. Is that place still hosting milsims? |
I agree with most of the statements above. The quality of the common player has gone down. When I first started playing in 2009 it was a whole different atmosphere, especially here on ASC. These days this site doesn't see too much traffic other than the sales threads, and spammers.
|
Yeah :( The old ways will not come back. But if you still play and you still have a tight group of friends that play as well, don't lose them! I still have a lot of fun with a group of friends I play with. Never a dull moment. And if we do spot a cheater, we Fire For Effect. Shoot all the fleshy spots until they call it.

Couldn’t have said it better myself ^

Came back here after a decade and damn this place is a ghost town
|
If you’re in Hamilton, there are two fields and shops in Niagara (Niagara Quartermaster and DMZ). Although I have left the sport for years, it seems the airsoft community here is still alive and strong.
|
Are there any other places to look for large games/milsims?

It’s been a hot minute since i checked in with anything airsoft.
Is CAPS still a thing? Also... Where dem custom gun pr0ns at these days? Dont see too many of those threads here anymore. My, how times have changed... |
i’ve got the itchies for a new pistol.
Dont really even know what’s out there at the moment but i feel like....it’s...my birthday. |
There is two fields that specialize in CAPS for the masses in the Greater Toronto Area.
As for pistols. There are actually a lot more accessories and upgrades now. You'll see a new class of players, Speedsofters, who often have really colorful upgrades and accessories. You'll probably see more toque wearing, HPA powered, dye mask players out there now than Mil-sim. Not a bad thing really since there are more colorful targets to shoot. :) Quote:

What's so hard about using a mid-cap with half the capacity that is spring fed?? Anyway, I haven't played since 2009. I've been wanting to get back into it but alas..it looks like what I expected would happen, happened. I knew it was all downhill once I heard Facebook was involved at all. I miss those sign-ups exclusively on here for places like the old Flag Raiders in Cambridge. |
Anyone left from early 2000's ?

For Indoor fields - Despite the high-caps and higher amount of new players it is not too bad if you go on certain days at certain venues where regulars would play, it can be fun. I go 2 to 3 times a week to Siege Airsoft in Scarborough for the past year and play with a regular group of people.
For IPSC style shooting - Definitely Action Air Canada in Mississauga is a lot of fun. Makes you realize that you probably are not as an accurate shooter as you think :P Don't forget that the influx of new players means better sales for the local retail stores. The stock and demand has gone up and it is so much easier to get things compared to 2009. (Unless you are buying from Hero Outdoors, call them before purchasing to see if they have stock) Quote:

I've noticed one new local place pop up offering airsoft: this paintballhq.ca. Still have to put up with the shitty paint but if anyone has visited (I know, long shot asking here now) I'd like to know. Ah well. I accept it in general though. The golden days of the 2000s are gone and sure as shit a big part of it was destroyed in the 2010s by the extreme rise of social media. Good that retailers can get a better foot in though. |
Regarding the declining quality of players, one of the things that turns me off from playing is that it seems like there's always an argument between players every time I go out. Has anyone else noticed this?
On the flipside, everything's a LOT cheaper now. |
Yes, I do see that happen. I find it happens more often on weekends since the players are all randoms and don't really know each other. At certain venues - weekends tend to be a mad house of randoms and hot headed rental players.
Better to go on days that have more regulars than randoms. Weekday nights I find are better and arguments happen at a minimum. I do agree, the good ol' pre-2010 days are gone. I remember playing with a solid group of 20 people back then. Those were the golden days, lots of fun moments and I learned a lot of great tactics. Quote:

I love that this forum topic was top when I logged back on. I literally just remembered my old password and dropped in for a site visit. It's interesting to read the changes over the years. My last activity was 2013!!! Perhaps the WW3 talk has me intriged to build an A-Tacs Au-X plate carrier loadout and doomsday prep. Plus I got a Fitbit and it tells me to excersize. Running around trying to shot for effect sounds like it's in the cards for 2020.
Hope to see you all out there! Ultimate Airsoft looks like the choice for me.. any red flags with that place nowadays? |

Ultimate is not bad. But it does get boring there as the field doesn't change all that much.
Siege Airsoft (in Scarborough) has a regular amount of players and they change their field map every month. The playing space is also bigger than Ultimate. Quote:

Thanks for the heads up - Siege it is. I need to do some jumping jacks before I get out there and puke...

Sad because I doubt the youngest now even grasp the concept that this action hobby is more about recreation and getting the 'feel' that comes from playing all-day/night heavily-themed games and not 'winning' or being the best or whatever shit. I'll never forget those zombie themed all-nighters at FR Cambridge. Also having another retro-realization: I've been on this forum/interested in airsoft for a little over half my life on this planet. |

Honour is not lost on the young. I've played with a few older 40+ aged manchildren who are absolutely terrible. Overshooting and lack of hit calling. At the field I play at, the refs are aware of them and are watching them closer.
As for younger players. It is easier to be a good example for them than the manchilds. Quote:

Getting ready to pack it in out here in Alberta. Kids, some old nagging injuries and a lack of enjoyment getting to me.

Yeah im a late 2000’s guy as well trying to get back into it since moving to the GTA. Being as there are more kids playing these days is there still a decent group of 30 or older guys playing? If so is there better times/days to catch them at places like siege airsoft?

Honestly I played mostly at Warpaint, but I heard it's a dilapitated shit hole now. I guess I could go to some other field but I honestly feel more interested in other hobbies. Airsoft was this super cool thing I could do but wife+kid+work means my weekends are more enjoyable sitting around the house or going to a farmers market. Every once and a while I see some awesome thing on the classifieds and think "Yeah I want that" but then I just kind of forget about it and move on. |
I'm one of those 30s guys.
For Siege Airsoft Wednesdays - Good mix of people from young to 40+ usually good group of people that are friendly and you get regulars who come. Although once in awhile you'll get a few non-hit callers, just fire for effect till they feel it :) Thursdays - Noob/Renters night. Mostly quiet on these days not many regulars, great day to just go in and tune your gun at the range if you need. Friday - Similar to Wednesdays. A mix of regulars of all ages. Wednesdays and Fridays are good days to go. Whereas Sat and Sun can be a mix bag of chaos. On weekends, the crowd is not as predictable as Wed/Fri group and it is usually overcrowded. In terms of safety - the staff take safety seriously and watch people to remind them of the rules. In terms of equipment safety/stealing - there are a few cameras around the premises so you will be able to see who stole what. Stolen equipment does not happen often. The last time it happened they caught the guy and was able to get the stolen item back. Weekdays are the safest cause you get all the regulars. Weekends can be tricky cause it is a big mixture of newbies and regulars. Quote:

Thats awesome guys! Its always tough to break into the hobby again but Toronto seems to have a fairly large airsoft scene so thats great. Do guys plan many Milsim games here in Southern Ontario and any Milsim teams kicking around the GTA? |

Agreed, I've been playing since 05 or 06 with few issues until facebook got involved. Actually had my first airsoft related fist fight at siege a couple years ago. Some guy and his buddy decided to try push up stairs, he got shot, and just stood there while his friend used him as cover, then got all pissy we didn't stop shooting, decided to get in my face and swing on me, so I tackled him down the stairs and ended the fight. Only been out a handful of times since then, and the player base has somehow actually gotten shittier than that guy. Honestly, most of my friends have retired or moved too far to play with, and when we do meet, we just hang out, so I'm considering just selling it all and dumping the money into more real steel, an ILTIS or WWII Reenacting. |
GoA is still alive. Bunch of us still play, some are retired, some starting to come back out of retirement.

Im glad i got into this in its hay day.... it feels like its game over now
