Footwear

I am looking at getting a pair of the Merrel Moab GORE-TEX Boots. Is this a good buy? I am tired of wearing military boots or high tops and want a light simple hiker boot.

Hiking boot = less ankle support.

This is what I wear right now and they're great. I use them for every day use. LINK

Thanks for the link Stealthee but I want an opinion on the Merrel boots lol.

Merrel Boots are great.
I have a pair of the Chameleon Leather Mid Waterproof II.
They're excellent boots. Decent ankle support, warm in the cold and not too hot in hot weather. They're not gore-tex, but my personal preferance is non gore-tex boots as they make my feet sweat too much. Even thout they aren't gore-tex they are pretty waterproof... I haven't gone through too much water with em but I wore em all winter and in some pretty heavy rain and they've kept my feet dry.

If I had a choice, I'd get Sawtooths rather than shorter Moabs. But they are not available in Canada :(

As for the quality, I own Isoterms and Ice Jams. Very happy about both.

I own Merrell Moab Mids, excellent quality. So lightweight they feel more like canvas shoes than boots.

Have worn them in snow/heavy rain/hiking so far and no issues with sweaty feet or damp feet.

Definitely worth the price...US price that is. I got my pair in NYC for $115.

(That's the Canadian price)

I have the Merrell Outland in Goretex and love them. For a hi cut boot with the feel of the Merrell's, I got the Lowa GTX TF Hi boots. Same comfort in a type that Merrell doesn't make.

Thanks for the input guys. I got the Mohab boots and they are very comfortable and light. Just have to test them in the rain and do a decent hike in them.

These have amazing ankle support...

I went from a standard leather military steel toe boot to a pair of hiking boots... scarpa something or other... shit they're light... ran around all day without getting tired at all. No issues with lack of ankle support... with something so light, you're far more sure footed.
