Need a small FPS upgrade
 

I'm looking to bring my stock Mauri MP5A4 (about 265 fps not that everyone doesnt allready know that) up to about 310 fps, 320 at the most. I know Ill need to put in metal bushings but I can't for the life of me find a suitable spring. can I even control my muzzle velocity so precisley? Would it make sense to buy a more powerful spring and then put on a velocity reducer? Also would increasing the guns velocity via a spring alter my rate of fire or cause the aeg to jam and misfire more (or less)?

Find any decent quality spring that is rated around 320-340fps and you'll be fine. Those numbers are for the average long gun. In a shorter gun, the velocity should be reduced.

What you are seeking is a spring that is not above 120%. An oldie that still works is the M100. However my knowledge of spring manufacturers is out of date.

I would try out an M90 spring from either Guarder, Systema or Prometheus. It should give you the result you're looking for. Metal bushings are OK too, but not REAL necessary with only an M90. Lots of guns from other manufacturers use nylon bushings with an M90 and run for a long time.

You don't need to change anything else.

Metal bushings are a primary upgrade for Marui guns. (Not the bearing types, just normal metal). You want to get rid of the plastic crap. May as well do it at the same time as the spring swap.

Then a mild spring. That's it.

Tightbore can also give a slight FPS upgrade, so you could even consider that, it would give you the velocity you want, as well as vastly improved accuracy

Personally I suggest getting an extended tightbore and a silencer.

In a gun like an MP5, the $80 usually isn't too worth the gain.

I use my stock 280mm barrel for CQB and a 407mm for woodland/outdoors in my M15CQB.

Just be careful of barrel suck..

Why go for over $80 of upgrades when a simple spring/busing set is all he needs?

I was thinking this myself. My MP5 (formerly an A5) had the 229mm inner barrel. It's been through a few different upgrades (originally a 150% and metal bushings, then an M4 slither stock installed, then an entire SD front end, then a bearing spring guide, put my 350fps gun up to 265fps) but the most recent was cutting and adding a 330mm inner barrel to it. Since it's an SD, it hides it well. Then I found out that it added 20fps to my velocity. So a longer and tighter barrel would give you roughly 30fps increase, and you can eaily cap it off with a silencer. Spring and bushing upgrade would be good too, even if it's a very mild spring.

So since Illusions spring chart was made using a P90, does that mean the FPS' will be quite different in say a full sized G36 or M16?

a tightbore will not add 50 fps. He is at 265, wants to hit 315... a tightbore will add MAYBE 20 fps, if that even.

No it wont give him the FPS he wants, he is gonna need to upgrade his spring if he wants 50 more fps. A tightbore will only add maybe 20, if that even.

If you have the money, there is always bearing piston heads and spring guides... Those are always fun and great for durability.

I use them and have never regretted it. I also like the silent piston head, but that's just me.

I find the FPS in full sized M16s to be lower than my tested P90 and the G36 sits in between the two... simply because of the difference between the P90s far superior hop up chamber/system and the Armalites far crappier system.
