M4 Flash Hider Upgrade

Hey, everyone. I'm new here but I have a question regarding flash hiders. I've been into airsoft for a few years now, but I'm more of a collector and photographer than an active player. That said, I bought a cheapo M4 from Wal-Mart and I use it mainly as a prop for my photos.

Now, What I want to do is upgrade the flash hider, but the barrel doesn't have any threading. I measured it with a caliper and it reads between 13.8 and 14mm, which my research tells me is an industry standard of sorts. So my question is, do you suppose it would be possible to thread the barrel manually? I figure it's made of plastic so it ought to be pretty malleable. Maybe if I got a metal flash hider, I could just kind of force-screw it on? What do you guys think?

Well, is the 14mm measurement an inner or outer diameter? Like, is it 14mm from the very top of the thread or at the lowest point between them? 'Cause my thinking is, if it's too large, I can just wrap the barrel in a layer of electrical tape or something to beef it up. And it's not like I'm skirmishing with this thing, so...
