In the mean time get yourself out to a game and check out as many guns as you can in person. If you are friendly, willing to listen to people and show a general attitude of respect and willingness to learn people will be MORE than happy to let you hold, shoot or even play with their guns (rental terms to be discussed between yourselves). Once you are able to do that you might find that you don't like the MP5, or an M4/M16 either. You might end up liking an M14 or SCAR or AK or some other gun more. Or you might find the MP5 or M4/M16 is best suited for you, only way to find out is by actually holding and shooting one.
So don't think you're in a rush to buy a gun, spend more time researching and saving money and you might just walk away with a perfect gun instead of making a rash decision and regretting it sooner/later.

+1 to that, i got to this forum in december 2009, got av'ed january 2010 and I bought my first pistol and AEG about 3-4 weeks ago (end of may, beginning of june 2010)...well worth the wait.
Be patient, read on the different brands, find out if you have options (compatibility and such) and
READ THE FORUMS. I have found 90% of the info I needed here, even when I googled general questions about my platform, accesories, technical data, etc. I ended up on ASC.
