I remember asking him the very same question about 3 weeks back when I bought a charger and two batteries from him (I was planning on buying a 800 mah mini too, but wanted to know if I could use it first), here's what he responded:

But yea I guess it does sound feesable that with diligent monitoring, you might be able to get away with charging a 800 mah over short intervals...
