Not exactly. It doesn't have the range or accuracy of an m14 or an m16 but it's not too much shorter then an ak or an m4. It really depends on the kind of terrain you're going to be playing in. Open fields, yeah mp5's not so good. But any kind of wooded area you'd be fine, especially if you found one properly upgraded.
