WE 1911 barrel wobble
Any ideas for quick (or not so quick) fixes out there? I hear getting a stronger recoil spring should fix this and I have one on order.
A few other ideas have popped into mind, including: taping the insides of the bushing (doesn't work, there's too much friction between the bushing and barrel for the slide to cycle properly), taping the outsides of the bushing (got rid of most of the obvious barrel play), getting a new barrel (Marui-compatible, attempting to get my mitts on one within the next year), or getting a new bushing (WA-compatible, I hear? Though I have no idea if these will fit Marui barrels, or if they will help to stabilize the barrel a bit more). The slide wobble was an issue, though I believe I have fixed most of that by improving the fitting of the slide rails on the frame to the slide itself, however, this seems to increase the rate of the slide getting stuck/locking up without the slide lock engaging, but oh well, its sort of irreversible now. Any input as to what would work, and what wouldn't work in that list? Or any other ideas that I haven't come up with already? I'm thinking that consistency of shots fired would increase if the outer barrel were to wobble less, and consequently, the inner barrel would too. Oh, just a note, the WE stock barrel I have (Socom Gear Wilson Combat CQB Elite to be exact) has some serious play issues between the inner barrel and the insides of the outer barrel - thus I plan to get an aftermarket outer barrel, like the Nine Ball SAS threaded barrel for TM 1911's. |

I didn't do it myself, but when i bought my WE 1911 it had already been applied, some ALUNIMUM tape around the inside of the bushing, not around the entire thing, just a part of it, try it out bit by bit till the wobble is gone

Aluminum tape? Where the heck would you get that? I didn't even realize that such a thing could exist, until now.

alot of airducting companies use it. No...not duct tape but alu. tape. home depot ,rona should carry it. if not some specialty store should have it but it is for retail sale.
p.s. there is also copper, zinc/magnesium, and a few other metal tapes out there. |

I'm giving up on fixing the outer barrel wobble. If the slide starts to lock up on a wobbly barrel, I'll DIY-fix it then. Thanks for the pointers though.
Instead of hunting for tape, or studying for finals, I just installed a bunch of aftermarket internals throughout the afternoon and evening... bad idea, it took way longer than I thought it should have, and I fear finding/installing a itsy bitsy piece of aluminum tape is going to be equally as time-consuming. |
