how to make gun louder and more FPS
PLZ read all of this before you shoot me down. im new, but ive been reading as much as i can.
id really like to dial this gun in for a certian purpose. heres the story.... i have a g&p m4 with an highspeed AIM gearbox. madbull tightbore barrel and systema hop up unit. (i bought it used like this) heres the link to the gearbox http://www.evike.com/product_info.php?products_id=30248 no matter how much i adjust the hop up, bbs drop after 100ft. sometimes they can float up but with very little fps. so adjusting does a tad help but should def have more range. i had a mini 9.6v battery. and it worked fine but taped to the stock. i bought a 7v lipo and it fits in the stock tube. shoots the exact same. (good) i read up on the gearbox, it sells for $100 alone(geez) it shoots very very fast. no misfeeding or jamming. this question is for specificly my gearbox and gun... the purpose of this gearbox is to shoot fast but thats not what i need, so without buying a new gearbox id like to change its purpose. the aim box comes pretty suped up nice but it shoots too fast and doesnt shoot far. what can i change in it to get more FPS/range AND make it louder? torque up gears? metal piston head? maybe the R-hop mod? If you want a louder gun, opt for a GBBR, not an AEG.

If the gun was just slapped together, there is probably a massive air leak from that no name brand complete mechbox, poor nozzle to bucking seal, and other gremlins to work out. If you know what you're doing, here's the order I would attempt to fix this in: Remove gearbox, check to make sure everything is shimmed, lubed, and fitted. Check compression. Check nozzle. Install gearbox. Remove hopup unit. Disassemble, roll barrel on known flat surface to check for bends. Check all parts for breaks. Reassemble. Check it's sealed properly, check for tears, check the hop can go on and off. Install Hopup. Now check to make sure the gun cycles and the nozzle is moving in and out of the hopup. Turn hop off. and then on 1/2 turn. Install a magazine with BBs, and check FPS. If it's way lower than it should be (400fps spring and you get 200FPS... etc.) then you have a seal problem between the mechbox and the hopup. If you get the right FPS, but when you adjust the hopup you still get no range, than the problem is in your hopup unit/barrel. Hop that helps. These problems and your situation in general is why I will not buy used AEGs from the classifieds. Too many gremlins. EDIT: Important, use high quality BBs. BBBastard are a good example. I've heard about people trying to fix a gun for weeks only to find out that their china BB's (surprise) are shit.

Your first mistake is assuming that velocity = range. That's not the case. How good your hopup unit works has far more effect on your range.
My custom C8 and my RS Type 56 both shoot about about 310 fps. They're my 2 lowest velocity rifles. They also have the longest range. As for sound, you can install a Firepig flash hider which will amplify your muzzle report a bit, but otherwise, you're pretty much boned when it comes to sound. An AEG is what it is.

Madbull Noveske KX3 flash hider is increasing the sound a bit and it is adjustable.

100ft? Seems like you have a bad hopup unit or airseal.
Have you thought of installing a R-hop? it would help out a lot. |

i orderd the flash hider.
poked around with the gearbox. very good compression (per youtube video) i had a new barrel and hop up unit come in the mail. but putting it all back together the grip that holds the motor gave out and broken. stripped screws finaly quit on me. so i have to order a new grip to test out more stuff. im interested in the R-hop seems abit over my head. i may try it when i have extra parts laying around since i play every weekend. |

Take a look in the mag well to see if the Hopup Chamber seated correctly against the mech box.
check to see if you have some play in the Hopup Chamber with your finger and that it seat's back correctly with out moving it back. If it dose not seat correctly on its own you may have to give the spring on the top of the Hopup Chamber a little stretch to help to seat it correctly and keep it there. |

Get a battery with higher mAh ie 5000mah 11.1, will make your gun sound meaner, louder and faster....that's if your internals can handle that kind of rof.

Faster - ok, it will increase rate of fire. But the OP already said he's looking to reduce fps Meaner - debatable. Define "meaner"

If you want your gun louder, 1) short barrel. Under 300mm. 2) Metal piston head with a thin rubber cylinder head. If you want to get fancy, glue a metal washer to the cylinder head to a nice metal to metal ring. 3) Madbull KX3 Flash hider with all the ports opened. With some of these mods, don't expect your gearbox to last as long. But you'll have a pretty loud gun.
