piston head - mechbox ver 2 or 3

ok, the piston head I want must work with an ICS mp5 sd5 which has a ver 2 mechbox. The problem is the head I want is only avliable for version 3 mechbox and sold out for ver2.

my question is this, can a ver3 piston head not work in all cyclinders wether it's ver 2 or 3? It's my understand that most parts inside the mechbox short of the spring guide with it's tabs are the same. are the cyclinders for different mechbox versions that much different from one another?

The only parts that are not interchangable is the cylinder head and the spring guide. The piston, piston head and cylinder can be used on both

that is probably why it's specifically made for ver 3 then as the piston head comes with the cyclinder head. hope they get more stock soon :banghead:

what set is this?

Jim is correct, the piston head is cross-compatible from v2, 3, 6, 7... and possibly all the gearboxes in between as well.

ILLusion:

I'm looking at that Angel silent piston head set for my ICS mp5. Since it's a version 2 mechbox and the version 2 silent head set is sold out at uncompany and WGC doesn't list it on their web site I wanted to know if I purchased the set if the version 3 which IS in stock would work. Just making up a shopping list as I'm expecting some money which I can use to pimp out my gun.

btw you mention the silent Angel piston set does not come with bearings... do you have a preference as to which brand to go with so I can butcher a set of bearings?

Keep in mind I'd rather go "good" then cheap as long as there isn't a 1% in difference and cost me $100 more. know what i mean?

Maybe my next questions as I don't have a version 3 mechbox open in front of me right now is weither it's possible to mod the verion 3 piston head set (piston head and cylinder head) so that it is able to work in a ver2 mechbox.

In the end I think i'll have to wait until I can find a group order to RedWold Airsoft to get the parts I need.
Thanks for your help guys

I think the price differences don't really warrant any differences in performance. Personally, I just butchered it from a Guarder aluminum piston head, but if I was being super-anal, I'd probably take Prometheus bearings.

The difference between the v2 and v3 cylinder head is that the nubs on the gearbox that mount to the cylinder head are larger on the v2.
So in order to get a v3 to fit v2, you would have to ream out the mounting holes on the v2 cylinder head to a wider size..
