I need your address so I can mail you a giant wooden spoon.
CIRAS-Land has an integrated cumberbund that wraps around the front and is secured with a triple velcro flap. It was designed for combat applications on terra firma. Advantages include that you can attach additional pouches or whatever under the cumberbund, doubling the real estate up front. It's also a little easier to put on, especially when you have armour and loaded pouches. Disadvantages include the unavoidable cumberbund sag, especially if you don't know shit about where and how to put your pouches. The release pillow is also placed to one side or another, making it harder for you to do an opposite-hand release. The CIRAS-Maritime was designed for wetter applications, as well as being applicable in land operations. You can see that the Maritime has a relatively slimmer profile compared to the Land. Among other things, it's to fit through tight ship compartments for VBSS. Maritime advantages include the ambidextrous release pillow located top or bottom of the rig and a slimmer mounting area compared to the girth of a loaded Land. Disadvantages include a lesser amount of PALS real estate, and a somewhat limiting front-side-back configuration for locating pouches, etc. The side flaps are also a little harder to put on, especially if you have armour in and have to don it by yourself. Both Land and Maritime are suitable for airsoft, since you're not going to carry your entire life on one rig. I personally chose the Maritime since I already have a RAV, which also has an integrated cumberbund.

what kind of hemet you rockin dc?
rock all that happens when you pull the cord is you vest falls apart... then you have to reassemble/ resize it.. pain in the ass. i myself love the land, and if i still had my maritime, id trade you in a second. i like the way the land fits/ sits, the extra room in the cumberbind for pouches. theres more pals straps. land is better imo, but thats because it suits my play style more. as for deployment, ive heard you CAN use your own gear as long as you get approval first, but in doing so you opt the life insurance, so if you die, your sol.... your only covered if your wearing cf issue gear. and for myself... i dunno, its a though to wear it, but i would buy a real eagle one for obvious reasons. |

If your ever on Facebook, look up a friend of mine Kerrie Jesse, he was in Afganistan and wore a ciras vest during his deployment, ask him what he had to go threw to do it.
Pic of him wearing it while in the "stan". Last edited by medhatboy; December 20th, 2007 at 20:00.. |

The Eagle CIRAS land version actually have a bottom pull pillow in addition to the left or right positon user's choice pull pillow. That's 2 pull tabs compared to the 1 in the Maritime. Too much choice for the Navy which opted to have a single position for the release pull pillow.
Like what Groombug suggested, lighter loads, get the Maritime. Bigger loads, get the Land. Your choice.

Lol ronan, no it doesnt mean i had to try, it just means your gf gave me head and it sucked, and i know 110% that a mannequin, with no soft tissue in its replica molded face could do it better than her.
swatt, its one of those bike helmets that delta uses, just woke up, cant remember what theyr called. i put some velcro on it, a few patches, and weathered it. |
