IMHO, classic ARs are gorgeous, but not for the field. Not in today's atleast.
SB, how many PTWs do you have? I've seen others on systema-ptw.com .. Are they yours, or just pieces you've worked on? |

I only have one lower but now 2 uppers. I just recently got the CQBR barrel set allowing me to make a second upper so I can just pop out the two pins and drop in the second upper. Alot easier than taking the whole thing apart like I have done about 10 times...
These two shown are the latest incarnations whereas the version at the beginning of the thread is a few months ago, and beyond that it was subtle changes from the stock form through a CASV, different gas blocks and rear buis's, a couple different stocks... you know just messing around. I recently posted up a photo with an A2 upper but then I found an A1 so I quickly changed to that. I have to admit that aiming is quicker and simpler with the aimpoint setup but that CAR is just too damn good looking not to use. Last edited by SBranson23; September 18th, 2007 at 02:14.. |

Wow nice looking XM you got there.
Couple suggestions though, cut the bayonet lug since the XM never had it, put an A1 pistol grip (no finger groove), adn remove the buttpad. (I know I'm picky when it comes to Vietnam haha)

A1 pistol grip is on the way. Because it's a PTW I had to get a RS one to modify. Hopefully it's not too tough a job.
I didn't know that about the bayonet lug. thanks! Unfortunately the buttpad has to stay (at least for now) because it covers the open stock tube with the electronics and the battery. If I can somehow figure out a better system I will definitely do the mod to rid myself of the rubber mess. EDIT... Just had an idea about the rubber plate... Since I have the aluminum stock now I could weld in a plate instead. Nice.... BTW, I did the mod to my other receiver without the shell deflector. Looks better. A new update as this evolves away from the C8 towards the XM177E2 version of the CAR15.
The first change was to mod my Colt upper receiver without the case deflector. It was a bit of a problem because it had the large front pin hole but it's sorted now. My flat style slip-ring to replace the delta ring and the A1 grip have arrived and are now installed. The grip was not as difficult to mod as I thought but that was largely due to having my spare 480 motor handy to help with the fit rather than having to use the installed motor. Still have the C8 trades but that's likely to stay and I'm not too sure I will mod the lower to an A1 style. Other possibilities would be a proper flash hider and cut the barrel down. I'm going to look into that. AR15.com has the perfect repro flash hider but unfortunately sales are limited to the US. I now have 8 mags converted and hope to double that soon. The end of the stock is now sealed so I no longer need the rubber butt pad. Yay!! Shown here in the second stop, this is as small as I can collapse the stock with my battery installed. Not bad at all if I do say so myself... And finally the bayonet lug is gone as per the original design. And now the pics. Last edited by SBranson23; October 6th, 2007 at 15:10.. |

Wowzers buddy, thats nuts!
I've gotta get you to teach me how you got the stock so retracted... best I could get was fully extended, one notch in if I didnt hook it up. Mod looks insane though, Im so amazingly jelous. For anyone who hasnt seen it in person, these pics dont do it justice, its increadable! |
