look around some of the threads on the site,
people usually upgrade barrels. hopups, wiring, gears etc...

when you say better i assume you mean range. (if its a rate of fire issue, new gears, new motor and a bigger battery will do the job with that)

hop would be my first thought.
could be a ripped rubber, or just a crappy seal

there could be a compression issue. a stock dpms should not be shooting better than a stock TM.

Keep the TM, especially if your on a budget. Apart from being plastic (albeit tough plastic), they're excellent lower budget upgrade platforms; meaning you don't need much to make them shoot nice, and they're REALLY reliable when kept mostly stock and under 350fps. And since it's a TM, upgrade parts are guaranteed to be 100% compatible with it!
SO, my +1 pro advice is to get an SCS (shredder concave spacer) and guarder clear hopup rubber. These will significantly increase your range and accuracy assuming your gun is still shooting 280 fps, and they're really easy to install as you don't need to open the mechbox!
If your gun is shooting under 280, it likely needs cleaning and re-greasing. A gundoc can do that for you, or you can do it yourself if you feel mechanically inclined.
If you want to spend a bit more money on it, a new air nozzle and cylinder head would also increase repeatability.
