I made a boo boo - KWA G19 Content *** NOW UPDATED***

Just got my G19 in the mail here at work (don't worry I didn't open it till i got home lol) and on my way home i decided to stop off at Shoppers to pick up some nail polish remover to get rid of the orange tip.

So i dip the end of the slide in the acetone... nothing comes off... so i take my nail and give it a little scrape and wooooooooooooooooppppsss... I scratch the slide. Fuck! :banghead:

Now instead of stopping I go crazy and scrape the shit out of the orange tip... and here's where I'm at. haha I know i'm stupid... i should have painted over it with flat black paint

So now onto plan "B"
Going to crappy tire tomorrow to buy some sand paper and metal polish. I'll post pics later tomorrow with the finished product. Stay tuned opcorn:

Don't worry about it. I screwed up worse. I used sandpaper and got a little too aggressive and it smoothed out all the edges too much. I just took a dremel and put them back in. A coat of paint and that'll look fine. KWA orange tips are a bitch.

Instead of sandpaper, I recommend very fine steel wool. Decent paint store should have it, maybe even Comradian Tire.

Steel wool and acetone, that's the ticket!

Yeah, I don't recommend sand paper after my experience. It's a lot of work too and like I said, I ended up rounding some of the edges. On a Glock it's not a big deal since it's kind of already rounded but on a USP it really takes away from the look.

Wow, good thing its just a Glock, I would hate to see something like that happen to a 1911. :P

Seriously though, if you want a good looking finished product continue removing the paint like you've been doing; strip down the entire slide, sand it lightly with automotive 600 grit sandpaper, clean it, prime it (important!!! and follow directions properly!) and repaint it. If you want a nice flat black that's durable, I recommend Krylon Epoxy Flat Black (you won't find it at Canadian Tire, you'll need to hit a real/major hardware store).

It was suggested to me to use brake fluid and the paint would pretty much fall right off after a good soak of 24 hours or so.

I wonder if that would increase it's stopping power as well...

Update... Dual Tone is the theme I'm going with now.

Bought some materials to polish the slide shown here:

About 1 hour later... with 400 grit wetdry sand paper I have this.

So now I'm going to go at it with 800 grit, 1000 grit and then 2000 grit. Followed by metal polishing compound.
I'll post pics as i progress and I can write up a DIY if anyone is interested.

i actually wanted to leave them black. If i don't like how it looks at the end i'll just polish them out too.

Ok here's 1000 and 2000 grit done....

And now the final outcome!!!

Before:

After:

Now there's a few little things i still have to do... like polish the inside barrel part of the slide... still a bit of orange on it and I might do what ColtFarmer said and polish out the slide grips.
After that maybe I'll polish the outer barrel... not sure if i want to leave it black yet.
Oh and sights have been reinstalled.
