Noob time #3 (downgrading)

Ok my next and hopefully last noob question before I start playing.

I have a Kraken ak-47 that shoots about 380ish but defcon games is a cap of about 340 (I believe)

I also have a general knowledge of replacing the spring, but were and what spring would i use?

M100 = 330 to 350fps

pretty sure an m100 will do you fine.
I've also heard that you can install a spring backwards to decrease the fps, may or may not work good enough. may also be damaging to your gun.
(certain I seen CDN_Stalker say this)

Wtf? There's really no difference in doing that. How would you know whats the front and the rear from packaging?
That's false.

the side with the tighter coils goes with the spring guide, but yeh nothing beats getting a lower powered spring

yeah, I know there is a front and backside (weirdly enough) but to be safe, just get a lower spring... unless you are a very cheap bastard! lol

I don't quite see how a spring will be more weak just because its backwards.
If someone can post the theory up why this is??

also you could just cut your spring down,

here is the ASC spring chart

Lol. PsuedoGundoctorFail. Not that it will harm anything, but you may not be getting the optimal FPS if it's a non-linear spring and it's backwards.

The M100 should put you in the range you are looking for.
If you are afraid it will not or are looking for something less I would like to suggest the modify S90.

I installed a Prometheus Ms90 in an AKS-74U I sold and it chronied 330fps with .20 Bastards. Tightbore and airseal nozzle though, both add to the fps due to tighter seal while firing.

here's my 2 cents on non-linear springs.

let's look at the dynamics of the spring system in general. When any spring is compressed in free space, it will emit an equal amount of force on both ends.

now, when it comes to non-linear springs, it does matter which side goes front/back. What makes the difference is in the mass of the spring. One side is heavier than the other when balanced from the center (closely spaced side = heavy; widely spaced side = light).

If we install the heavy side forward, this will add mass and inertia to the moving piston which in turn causes the force of the spring to be reduced. Reduced force onto the piston means lower fps. Vice-Versa, lighter side of spring forward means less mass and inertia to piston causing more force from spring. More force from spring means higher fps, yay! Refer to my diagram attached.

This could explain the results from "jugglez" and "Stalker" from reversing these springs.
