For a sidearm...or PDW/secondary...got to go gas. Just too much fun to do otherwise.
For an MP7....gas, hands down. The electric MP7 can be made to shoot decently/accurately/etc...but as mentioned, PITA to work on, parts are not cheap, and you're left with the ho-hum AEG sound/feel/action. On the other hand...grab a gas MP7 and snap off some rapid shots and everything's good. Personally...I just couldn't get used to the grip angle of the MP7...just felt weird to me. |

I would suggest a M93R, but Tokyo Marui only makes an electric version.
M93R is good IMO because its semi, burst, or full auto. Handy for situations where full auto would be needed. I think KSC makes two (GBBs)(the System 7 being the newer and better one) and I've heard of good things about it, but I've never actually held one. Just my two cents.

nobody has mentioned one of the best things about hi-capa's - the crazy number of bb's they hold. A friend has a newer Kjw M9 and it's a sweet gun as well.

Although the M93R is one of those guns I always wanted on my wall, aftermarket support is rather slim, mostly standard parts shared with Glocks. Full auto is the bane of pistols from a maintenance and reliability point of view. Fun, but you really need to know your way around them once the inevitable gremlins set in after a few months use. I read about people bricking their guns from a simple slide swap, and these people knew a crap load about the guns. |

Gas is definitely the way to go. The extra cost of gas is COMPLETELY worth the blowback of gas. You get the sound, and you get the kick. And you're definitely going to get a huge grin on your face when you fire gas vs electric. Anyways, not much else I can add to the original post that hasn't already been answered multiple different ways. Just realize, that when you're asking for an opinion on a forum, everyone will have their own opinion formed. It's up to you whether to place more weight on one reply over another. But if it helps to solidify the decision anymore, the TM Hi-Capa is definitely the ubiquitous "Marui M4" and "Honda Civic" of the aftermarket upgrade world. You can upgrade (or source replacements for) EVERY SINGLE COMPONENT in it, except for two small components that you'll not very likely ever need to touch anyways. Second to the Hi-Capa, the Colt M1911A1 Government and the MEU are the next most upgradeable. Previously mentioned concerns about gas consumption are now moot, as the Wilson Combat 10 round extended magazine replica has just been released. Third to this, would be the Beretta M92 series, followed by the Glock 17, P226, and Desert Eagle trailing the pack, as far as being able to source available aftermarket components. I am referring only to Tokyo Marui - in my books, they are top tier for a number of reasons. Primarily, performance, durability, aftermarket support, and price point are all deciding factors.

Thanks again everyone, I have been hugely appreciating everyone's input. I am slowly working up a new list of questions to get deeper into this topic.
