+1 Curo,
I use Magpul PTS M version Pmag Midcaps because they feed great and are very durable when it comes to just droping them on the floor from a standing position. While I don't load as little towards the Real Cap side, i still don't load them beyond 100 Rounds. my speed loader holds around 70 - 80 rounds but i probably fill up 2 mags with one speed load i don't like the spring getting too tight so i probably just click the loader 5 or 6 times before I move on. since each load is about 4 - 6 rounds

Obviously it's an expensive hobby and you should be able to spend a couple hundreds, but low- or midcaps are not a necessity and sometimes when you have cash for only the very basics, you play with what you have. |

Real bullets don't roll out of the end of you gun and fall out of the mag well on mag changes either so a dozen shots or so over the real limit should be acceptable I would imagine.
I think in the end it comes down to what you enjoy more, both seem to have enough advantages and disadvantages to balance out in the end I think. If someone has a hi-cap mag and is firing them off like it's an LMG witha drum on then I'm sure his gun will reflect that one way or another. When I finally get geared up I don't want to have half a dozen midcaps if I don't need them i'd rather have 2 hicaps. Also think of it this way, the more mag changes you do the higher chance of something getting into your mech box too. |

I really don't mind so much if the person is new and only has a mag or two and they are highcaps. We all start somewhere...
But when I see the guy with 10 high caps... it's time to have a talk... lol wut. |

Lets be real ... most new players don't save up a thousand dollars, then buy everything at once... heck you might not even like it. So you buy a gun that almost always comes with a high cap, some eye protection and start playing- picking up more gear when you can. Tell me you started out with a complete kit. in my opinion more players equals more fun.

If you loose more than 3 or 4 bb per reload, then your gun has a problem...
If you're a starter, or if you're at a friendly skirmish, yeah I can accept hi-caps. But if it's a milsim game with clear rules for magazines, I don't want to see any hi-caps. Often if it's the only magazinme type available for your gun, someone found a way to modify them into mid or real caps. |

High capacity magazines are usually banned by most teams, milsims, etc. other magazines types like middle capacity, or low capacity may also have limits associated with their usage; like a mag limit. High capacity magazines aren't usually respected or well thought of by the prominent community, but many gun models come with one in the box.
LMG users (and by LMG I mean LMG, not an AK with a large stock and bi-pod; but rather a full and proper RPK, etc), are allowed one box, drum, or high capacity magazine in most cases. This is for game dynamics, and to allow the gun to be used for it's intended purpose. However, all teams, groups, games, sims, or whatever have their own unique variations of these rules.

Ok mag swaps would represent a chance to get dirt/foliage/water inside your gun. Unless you are indoors or check your mags before shoving them in your gun then sure low chance, but most mag swaps on the fly I have seen people don't look they just shove it in there like it's their date on prom night.

but we're straying from the original question. The fact is that many players for whom airsoft is just a secondary hobby or starters in the hobby don't want to spend 100$ for midcaps when they've just spent 300 on a gun even though they might not even like the thing. So how many rounds should an Lmg gunner have in his box when in a Milsim game? Should he not only have the standard box size? I've been to milsim games where everyone is running reg caps but the lmg gunner has his box loaded to the max.
