I personally find this a vast and highly informative forum, both in posts, and through asking veterans their opinions and experiences.
Of course, every time a noob (ie, me) wants to ask something, we typically start a new thread. And so if we want an opinion on something else other then the original question, we either post in and necro the old thread (but often not editing the title) or make another new thread.
These threads become repetitive and many often ask the same thing and so the veterans get a little cranky being asked the same thing over and over. Often, they will refer noobs to stickies; however (as has been pointed out), many are quite outdated.
As such, one option is to create further subdivisions of categories to start threads in. Maybe a "New Gun Opinion" category with sub-categories of "Pistols", "Rifles", etc, and then further break those down into power (AEG, GBBR) because right now, I feel this is the majority of the questions people are asking in the general and noob threads, and many are repeats.
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers, and thank you veterans for answering many noob questions!

Man this reminds me... for old timers like Porkchop and myself who were around before ASC... back in the day... The AIRSOFT ZONE forums. That place was brutal lol

I think I waited about 6 months before making my first post.

I played in my first airsoft game this past spring.

I read the FAQs, got AVd, And ASC provided me everything I needed: access to equipment, a connection with a gun doc, and a line on the local games in addition to the wealth of information on a wide variety of topics. I think a lot of learning for new players happens after that, when you actually get out to play.

I see a lot of new posters not bothering to read anything, just look to all the want ads and retailer linking in the newbie and general areas, or the guy who asked how to get AVd in the AV faq thread for examples. I think those posters deserve whatever people care to dish out.

I find ASC lacking in mainly gun tech advice and themed airsoft.

Good:
-Players and Events area
-Classifieds

My experience in ASC gun tech advice usually ends up in "I don't own that gun or gearbox etc but I heard this from blahblah"

My favorite part in ASC is the amount of shit talk players give to each other on the forum. But when they meet each other at a game, they seem like best friends.....

Also I've read very homophobic comments from members in the community and outside.

I rarely post anymore in this part of the forum but it's a good topic I think that's important to discuss.

I love going on the FB extension for the forum, only to see most of the members haven't even heard of the mother page.
Or when Frank starts coaching people, and then gets un warranted shit slung at him.

Back to the forum though.
In my short time here, compared to others posting, everyone seems significantly friendlier, and more willing to help. I think a lot of newer members answering questions just like to talk airsoft though. That is also the unfortunate downside to Cooney's comment about unrelated tech posts.

You vets doing in depth research into the science behind the sport are a godsend. Every time I see Thunder post, I usually make time to read it.

Coogles,

I like looking on Airsoft Mechanics for real in depth info. I don't think I've ever made a post there other than in the "hi new to the forums" sticky.

I don't know what it is about face OR ASC, for all I know it's the gundoc tag or the join date.
But on fb, I sound just as knowledgeable, but more people try to argue with me.
(My fav was that kid giving me shit because I dissed G&P internals in a very written pro and con explanation as to why a noob shouldn't buy a G&P as their first gun. "What are you talking about? G&P has the best internals ever made! I'm 16 and even I know that.")
I guess the forum handle is just more recognizable? But I have a freaking pony gif as an avatar.
I really don't know why any noob would take me more seriously on here than facebook lol

Tried and true tech info with facts to back it up speak louder than avatars lol

All the drama moved from the forum to the fb page. I solved it!

I love this forum... as someone said people can come across like assholes but meet them in real-life and they are still assholes.

Seriously, lots of good info and smart people on here. Best games have been organized on here that I've enjoyed in my first year. Mostly good people to buy and sell gear and trade. Some drama every once in a while and the sky-is-falling-Airsoft-banned threads help the old guards get their cardiovascular work-outs in on the keyboards.

I told Bloodsport this, if I wasn't on ASC I probably wouldn't be as involved or have nearly as much fun in the hobby as I am now.
