As a CA249 owner myself, allow me to give my perspective on this issue.

The easiest way to describe the two is like this - the Star M249 is a toy; the CA249 is a weapon.

The CA is a beast, yes. It's heavy and it gets tiring lugging it around for too long. However my philosophy when deciding which one to purchase was, "what doesn't kill me will make me stronger." When I used it during Op:KS2 I got tired of it after a few hours, but I eventually got my second wind and carried on just fine.

The auto-winding box mag of the Star is a cool feature but that precludes you from using M16 mags or aftermarket box mags. It is also a failure point that has manifested itself a few times from what I've heard, the plastic connector breaking and rendering the gun useless. On a CA, if your box mag fails or runs out of ammo you can always bum mags off your buddy with the M4 and keep going. Since the Star box mag also houses the battery, you're SOL if you take that off. I use a MAG 2500-round box mag with the pressure switch taped to my grip. All I need to do is squeeze the grip as I squeeze the trigger and it "auto-winds" itself. Works for me.

The biggest reason to go with the CA is durability. A local guy got his Star 249 brand new and the rear sight arrived broken. Since it's moulded into the feed cover you can't really fix it. I've also read reports of other parts arriving busted before the first owner even had a chance to sniff it. At KS2 I took a nose dive into the ground evading some reckless driving on behalf of the Blue Team and my CA went barrel-first into the dirt, hard. I picked it up and continued shooting. I'm positive a Star would've snapped something serious and you'd be buying yourself a new gun. Read the CA249 thread on Arnie's for stories of people swinging their guns into trees, landing on them, dropping them on concrete, and the gun shrugs and says "That all you got, bitch?"

Hope this helps.

The CA Para has the Sliding stock, railed feed tray and shorter inner/outer barrel.

Aswell the full stock will allow for a large battery, whereas the para can only fit a nun-chuck at most. Mind you, with a little modding, you can house a large in the box mag.

So for mobile fire support, the MK2 would be the better option right?

*edit*
Well i suppose the Para would be easier to fire when moving, but the MK2 would have the longer range from the extended barrel correct?

And what does the railed Feed do?

Pity you cant have an belt fed lmg lol, it would look SOOOO cool to have 2 belts of ammo slung across your shoulders in an X as you have the shoulder strap on and held in the waist firing position, smoking a cigar as the belt just feeds through the gun. *FMJ MOMENT* lol

Also, im thinking of doing the box mag mod, and getting 1-2 extra boxes, cause i hear the 249 eats up batteries like theres no tommorow.

The good news there is you can now get excellent high capacity cells to fit those guns that will give you more than enough running time without having to mod anything. One option is to get a pair of Intellect 8.4V 1400mAh packs and run them im parallel to get 2800mAh. Should be about the same size - or smaller - than an AUG brick which is what I believe the guns will fit.

The Railed feed tray lets you mount a scope.

As for the battery life, I haven't had too much problems with it. I can go through a 2100mAh NiCD in a day of shooting with my Mk2, but I always have a backup so its not too big of an issue.

Nope, only the para has it. IMO, it might be worth getting the Para if you can't decide between the two and if they are similarily priced. You can pick up fullstocks relatively easily/cheap on ebay and you can pick up outer barrel extensions/inner barrels from the buy/sell.

depends where you get it from but the mk2 is usualy cheaper. I wouldn't go with the extra batteries in box mags route as changing the box on the airsfot version isn't nearly as fast as on a real steel. you can dump a new bottle of bbs into the mag way faster then you could change the box out and their is alwasy the risk of damaging/losing the top portion that feeds to the gun as it's only held on by the bb feed tube. again deffinatley get a new piston and piston head too if you wish and swap them out as the first thing you do cause it will probably save the gun an early exit from a game to do it later.
