There is a fifteen cent solution that is far less material/labor intensive than any mechanical impact triggered mechanism. It has almost no mass and as a result very little inertia, which greatly decreases the kinetic energy the round transfers to the target when it impacts, as you can imagine this means less pain for any one who is unlucky enough to get hit with one. I could try and explain it to any one who cares but as the old axiom says a picture is worth a thousand words, and in this case hopefully a photo acompanied by a MPEG clip will be worth a million typed words. If I have any time tommorow I'll shoot a quick clip with one of the newer AT-4s outside of my welding shop to illustrate the concept in action.

if your just designing reuseable ammo your wasting time
in the time it'll take you to make one round you could make 50 disposable rounds that double as cheap grenades, and it costs me about 3$ for 100 rounds
take two styrofoam cups, an exacto blade, a roll of electrical tape and a handful of BB's and get manufacturing

its simple, its easy, it works, its tested and its safe, just make sure you buy the rocket launcher before you start making them

100ft?

lets say a 4 ft toob.

Iv seen the AT4 shoot the nurfs and they fly hella good but what about jus the bbs.

Thanks

both lance and i can pour BB's into our mortars and fire about 80-100 yards but straight BBs wont work at all in an AT-4, you need to hold them in something (plastic bag, ziploc, styrofoam cups)
as for putting an M203 in a PVC pipe, you'll get the same range as an M203
with those styrofoam rounds, they explode on impact sending BB's flying in every direction and in our 30" rocket launchers have a range of 40-60 yards

I don't know about using styrofoam cups. Let me know if I understand this correctly, you're launching the round(styrofoam cup) with the BBs inside at the direction of the target. You've gotta have some distance so I'm assuming something like 300-400fps? The round holds 100 BBs, at 0.25g/BB, you're looking at 25gs travelling at 300-400fps. Thats 104.5J, obviously the round would lose energy as soon as its fired, but its not going to lose THAT much energy. If you get a direct hit, its going to hurt.......a lot.

i dont really see the point, airsoft is a game of honor and calling your hits... couldnt you just tell everyone that if you are near it when it hits you are out?

Hey Mors how much DID that hurt? lol

It's like being hit with a tennis ball. Not pleasant, but no permanent damage. lol

We test fire all of our equipment before we use it. I'm willing to let myself get shot by any of our equipment, its safe. Well as safe as anything in airsoft really.

What part of your body got hit? I think the impact force of a football or even a tennis ball could possible knock your mask off your face if you took the hit anyway other than straight on from the front. I don't think most people would be comfortable with that risk.

that will be one hella lucky shot to hit'im in the head with a non hopup (or any ballencing force) To me it sound like it will jsut tumble in the air.

The other point is look at where thes people live!! i dont think you have to wory about any of this if you live in BC and the original poster was from onterio. If you see it in the game talk first then test then make a decision. People can say anything they want about force of impact but untill you actually get hit no one but the testers will know so if they say it doesnt hurt then just maybe you might want to belive him unless your a really big pussy....then go and play lazer tag.

LOL i love these rocket launcher threads.

Ducky took a mortar to the shoulder, me to the back.

Its really not that bad.

Take into account that rocket launchers are meant to shoot at VEHICLES.

Mortars are a different story, but we found air bursting rounds by hitting trees is more affective that trying to hit people head on, and less painful.

2 inch kill zone of a mortar round vs a shower of BB's?

The shower is WAY more effective, and much cooler.

Zero and crew aren't running around with these things shooting people haphazardly either. These are a essentially a working prop that is used for a very specific purpose. It's not like it's their primary.

I bought one of his mortars and the styrofoam shell works very well and shoots far. They are reasonably priced as well if you consider what an AEG costs.

Don't try and re-invent the wheel, you want something that is constructed well, works great, and is easy to reuse...this is it.
