ya i would get a 400fps instead of the stock 280fps (i think that is what it is dont quote me on that) and because of that i would have re-enforced gears
thats not the point, it doesnt matter what im going to do, i have my own opinion lol, im just wondering if anyone knows what version gearbox it is, so i know what parts to get for it |

Sorry for so many posts
I believe you can use the CA MB if you want. STAR makes drop-in plastic MBs for the CAs and they appear to be the same. PGC refers to them as V3S but mostly they are listed for the "m249 series" because no other AEG uses that design. |

The STARs are one of the lightest M249s out there so I think you are doing yourself a favor in the long run. But, you know that after you spend money on the upgrades you'll be at or over the CAs price range, but I would not but a CA for its internals (the M249 MB being the exception). Does STAR ship with box mags, CA does. I think if you upgrade your STAR you'll be happy to have the best of both AEGs.
good luck |

The tappet plate is a Ver 2 and the spring guide is a Ver 2 as well and it has a CA short type motor. |

I have upgraded the star249 gear box. First get wildmonkey metal gearbox for sure, polymer is shit, piston guide rail failed after 4000 rounds.
As for internals you can use any gear set you want, the stock gear set is pretty good though. The piston is V2/V3 however not every piston works, I tried a few systema ones and they were just a little too short and would get hung up on the side of the mechbox. (I used a VSS piston and piston head) You can use a version 3 spring guide you just have to cut the sides down a bit (you will know what I mean when you go to install it. Now the mechbox is long therefor you will loose 40-50fps off whatever spring you use (I'm using prometh 140 shooting about360fps) Standard barrel so thats an easy thing to upgrade, the hop up rubber is shit, get a guarder one. I havent changed cylindar and nozzle yet so I dont know what comparable version it is yet, also install a mossfet |

Dude, that sucked. I now understand what you were wondering. That thing doesn't have a version and there is no way to know what you have to put in it. I think its mostly ver 3.

The CA M249 uses V2/M4 gearbox parts. V2 tappet plate, M4 nozzle, Gears don't really matter, V2 Anti-reversal latch, short motor. The stock barrel is (i believe) m16 length. So if your going for cylinder upgrades, get one ported for that length.

Star's don't have a plastic mech box... it is poly carbonate a major difference.
Star uses it's own mechbox design so you can NOT just grab a v2 and drop it in there PGC makes a CNC'd mechbox for the star but IMHO it's a waste of cash as the star boxes are pretty damned good If you are so decieved that the Star is plastic and you can't work with that check WGC for the PGC mech box

I put prometheus double torque up gears and piston to increase the durability to nearly unbreakable, systema 'silent' head set (cushions the blow better, maybe 10% quieter than standard piston heads). And she only shoots 350fps due to MAA rules, but if we still had to 400fps limit I'd only put it up to 370-380fps both for durability and for safety's sake of other people. I also cut my 8.4v 4200mah battery down to a 7.2v to keep the ROF around 800rpm. When I first got it I had just shimmed the gears and put a 350fps spring in it, so I was just using a mini battery and getting an ROF around 800rpm. Well the mini ran out so I switched to my 8.4v 3000mah, ROF went up to about 1000rpm lol |

got to say if your a small framed guy the star might be for u. I have only had 1 problem and it was my fault for being impatient with the trigger assembly. With a tightboar and a new hop up it shoots far and last long.
