considering the UK has a ban on 100% black or realistic colored airsoft models, this will enter their country

so as we have a replica ban, I'd assume this is reasonably comparable to the body of other clearsoft that can enter canada

First of all, what an amazing community here! I understand airsoft isn't legal, but isn't quite illegal either, so it's fantastic there's this huge community where people interested can ask other people 'in the know'.

Now, this might sound a little strange, but bear with me if you could. I'm looking for a beginner's M4, but I care not about shooting BB's...*at all*. I think it's neat, yeah, but I appreciate just the aesthetics of the model itself.

So what I'm looking for is:
  • Something that resembles the weight, size and appearance as much as possible, but also is clear with an orange tip
  • Has other knobs and levers on the weapon (such as safety, magazine release, etc.)
  • Maybe something that doesn't cost a whole lot
  • And again, characteristics geared towards shooting BB's (ie. FPS, accuracy) are not important, though considered a bonus!
So a glorified toy, somewhat. I've found a DPMS A17 M4 Carbine here at http://airgunsource.com for $99.98 CAD. Looking at some YouTube clips of this thing, it seems to fit the bill.

So a few questions:
  1. Is that an OK website to get this gun at? As in, no issues with shipping or Canadian laws, as far as anyone knows?
  2. I've heard the term 'crapsoft'. I think this is one of those, seeing as it's clear, with the orange tip and all?
  3. I've been reading the 'newbie' forums here, and it's still somewhat unclear to me. http://007airsoft.com has items which state, "All items sold on this website conform to Canadian regulations and laws. You must be 18+ years old to buy an Airsoft gun". But the guns themselves are not clear, with an orange tip (which I believe is an American thing). If that doesn't matter, why even have these clear/orange tipped airsoft guns?
I'm interested in safety above all. I want to make sure that whatever AEG I get is plastic with an orange tip to ensure it's not mistaken for a real firearm. But I also understand my actions and how I use this AEG matters most to safety and potential misunderstanding.

Thanks for all your guys' help, and keep up the awesome work here!
From what I see it has plastic gears, so a big NO. Try and find something with metal gears.

My friend got that gun from airgun source...for 99.98$ and the shipping cost was really good...(about 15-20$)

so yesterday he got his package (it took 1 week to get to his house) .

the box was pretty light..., about 1-2kgs or less, we openned it, and we took the gun... yes is was pretty too much light for me (since I'm used to hold my TSD HK416 full metal that weights about 10kg) but ya, for the first time, that clear china made airsoft gun didnt have any weights in it!!! so ya we'll add some tonight.

first when you hold the gun,you can feel the cheapiness of the guns and the construction..
then, one major problem with this gun is that the body pins/bold they use to hold the gun together (like the real m-16, m-4...) are a little to large, so to fit the holes they had to use force (i believe with a hammer) when they put the gun together... so that make the rear upper receiver ...''rings''?... i beileve thats how they are called, are cracked or broken in pieces... so the upper receiver is webling too much it feels like its gonna break in half...
If you look carefully on the box or a pic of it, you'll notice that on the gun they used to take the pictures, it's rear upper receiver ''rings'' are cracked too...
also the dust cover for the hop up doesn't open when you pull the charging handle (bad design I beleive)
you have to expect that kind of issues with guns of that price (saw it in walmart in the usa for about 69$) cheap = cheap quality because of cheap material used in the construction of the gun, so they are more likely to break)

so ya this gun can be considered as CRAPSOFT!

the gearbox is full plastic, and the only metal part on this guns are the trigger and the top rail for the rear sight (cuz it holds the upper receiver in one piece), and the srews of course
performance, the gun isn't bad for a clearsoft, at 260 fps, with .12g bbs (good for backayard ''games'' or for fun, not hardcore airsoft, it could never make it to a real airsoft skirmish...thats sure.

so in conclusion

pros:

- full size
- markings
- price

cons:

- the pins/bold issue
- too light
- cheap feel
- cheap construction
- the dust cover
- low fps
- ...

my friend absolutely wanted a clear automatic gun for 100$, in canada, so ya we can see that the expression ''you get what you pay for'' applies in Canada, for airsoft.

I think he meant 10 pounds...10 kilos would be like a real-steel barrett with a box-mag.

Everyone always says my AUG had nice weight to it, and I think it weighs between 7-9lbs...

Its a new form of metric. Just swap lbs with kg and you're good to go. Don't worry about the additional weight, noone will notice.

Hey guys,

Again, thanks for helping me out so far. Thought I'd return and just offer a brief review of the M4 airsoft rifle if anyone was curious, now that I've recieved it.

As Palucol mentioned, the gun does exude a 'cheap' feel at certain points, and I'm sure especially for anyone who has ever played Airsoft seriously before. My biggest gripe lies with the design of the barrel. It's very plastic-y, and doesn't feel solid/firm at all. The barrel is not a single solid piece, but rather a cage-like design around the thinner barrel that the BB's travel down.

The 'cage' bit where you hold the airsoft rifle does shift forward/backward a little bit, and I don't feel confident gripping the rifle there in fear I'll crack it eventually. I tend to just press my other hand against the magazine well (or whatever you call that part) for support.

Otherwise, for my purposes, it's a great airsoft rifle. I love the 'full stock' aspect and how it is full-size. Since I'm not looking to fire the airsoft rifle, I can't comment on FPS and all that kind of thing, but for my purposes, I would buy again for the price I paid.

As for airgunsource, they shipped out my items the very next day, and they send via Canada Post Expedited. I recieved my package in about 3 days (this was around the Labour Day weekend). Highly recommended!

Thanks again everyone.
