I also would like to see the documentation that states that a WE GBBR can be converted into a real firearm. I would rather trust my life to a set of commonly available hardware store parts to make a homemade firearm than a Taiwanese airsoft gun!! Holy Cow, make sure there is no green gas in it when you fire your first shot. Burn ward anyone.

I've read a lot of articles on how corrupt the ATF is, things they've done and such, they are REALLY bad. This is a classic example right here, as well as the idiocy that is deep rooted within.

From what i've heard atf tends to be the retarded little brother of all the other agencies in the states. So take it for what you will. And this is kinda funny, but gotta feel bad for the importer

"With minimal work it could be converted to a machinegun"
So not only are we going from airsoft to firearm, we're bumping it from an assault rifle to a machinegun. I think how they did their testing was they took the WE gun and tack welded it to an M2HB.

The law about orange tips is in the USC (United States Code) and only requires orange tips for the original sale, so distributor to reseller and reseller to end user. There is no law regarding transport with orange tips here in the US. Some areas do have laws regarding gun colors - such as New York City.

Obviously you are an American so you should be more aware of the laws down there than me.
However, I am pretty sure that in California removing the orange tip is a misdemeanor. You can put black tape over it but that's about it. Still funny though. That whole orange tip thing as if it means anything. If I put an orange tip on real steel does that make it a toy? And the fact that almost anyone that plays airsoft gets that orange out almost immediately. This game / sport / hobby is about has a fair amount of suspension of disbelief attached to it. The orange tip is just a wee bit counter-productive. And now the ATF is upset that an airsoft gun can be altered to fire bullets AND doesn't have an orange tip. Well Mr. ATF man, according to your tests maybe it shouldn't have an orange tip. Edit: I surfed for this: California Penal Code 12553. (a) (1) Any person who changes, alters, removes, or obliterates any coloration or markings that are required for by any applicable state or federal law or regulation, for any imitation firearm, or device described in subdivision (c) of Section 12555, in any way that makes the imitation firearm or device look more like a firearm is guilty of a misdemeanor. (2) This subdivision shall not apply to a manufacturer, importer, or distributor of imitation firearms or to the lawful use in theatrical productions, including motion pictures, television, and stage productions. (b) Any manufacturer, importer, or distributor of imitation firearms that fails to comply with any applicable federal law or regulation governing the marking of a toy, look-alike or imitation firearm as defined by federal law or regulation is guilty of a misdemeanor.

this is ****ing ridiculous. "with minimal effort these can be converted to a real machine gun" "The reason why importers buy them from Taiwan is because they are cheaper"
1.i'd like to see these guys try convert them to a real gun. it will probably cost wayyy more..you can also convert an umbrella to a gun are they going to ban umbrellas now? 2.Definitely not the right reason why importers buy from overseas. I'd think the reason leans more towards " things that are made here don't work" Last edited by cerealmaniac; March 1st, 2010 at 17:29.. |

The orange tips are a law that varies state to state. Since US Customs can't be sure of where they will wind up they have a blanket requirement that anything coming in has them.
That is red herring and should be ignored in the debate as to what these are; toys for role playing, or terrorist machine guns.
