I played outdoors for the first time the other day (I'm a CQB Whore) with my $35 wallmart special JT mask and although I was only shot twice, once was in my face, just below the google part, probably would have been my nose or upper lip. While I got some fogging, it wasn't that bad, although it was a cooler day. Nothing a set of thermal lenses wouldn't cure I'm sure.
I play all the time at an indoor arena and you are always getting shot in the face, full masks are mandatory there, although they offer ones with mesh lenses. I would highly recommend a facemask to anyone. Think of it, $35 for a cheapo mask, or $200 to fix a chipped tooth.

Droc, Honza, other guys, 15 years ago, I played paintball and masks were not enforced so I never bothered. I never took one in the mouth, didnt think it was a big deal. Probably would have been a battle scar if I did.
Now, I have a mortgage, bills and a couple other hobbies I try to do justice to (including now airsoft, just starting out). I have a responsibility to my career to look professional, and the $1200 I have already paid out of pocket for a ceramic crown to fix something else I did when I should have listened to common sense is enough, lesson learned. Money like that would be better spent on new AEGs or a holiday to Mexico. My choice is not motivated by fear or opinion - just the facts. In other sports with similar risk of tooth loss, masks and mouth gaurds are mandated. Well, except the NHL. However, If I got paid 1.2 million dollars a season to entertain you with airsoft, I'd play with my shirt off and skulls painted on my chest... but I digress. |

You may want to consider these masks. I believe they're thick enough to prevent chipped teeth and most bruises.
http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper...95314f77ea41dd I hear they get pretty hot, though. Personally I wear a balaclava and a mouthguard. Never been shot in the mouth yet, but why take chances, right?

The mask shown by Wesman must be too hot. I have a similar mask in neoprene for freezing days in winter and even at those temperatures, the mask gets wet pretty quickly. Now, imagine at 30+ degrees running everywhere...
Does anybody else wear a mouthpeice? I know that calling orders like daffy duck must not look really pro, but it is a good compromise. Being shot in the face is no big deal. The skin repares itself, but the teeth... Kymoz |

Why do people always have to bring this shit up before a game? Like seriously, thanks guys. Anyways just keep your mouth shut when you get into contact. You can almost always tell when a contact is about to happen so have your mouth open untill something goes down and then keep it shut. If you have good relexes you can often get your face out of the way before you get hit. Of course this will only work part of the time. Alot of it has to do with how you play. If you start getting yourself into situations where you are shooting at close range with your mouth open yelling like an idiot you are gonna lose teeth. Keep your mouth shut and think about what you are about to do.

I wear a mask, JT Thermal, and I've never even remotely had any type of fogging what so ever. I run a lot and move quickly during games - even games in high humidity - and never any fogging.
Also, during some of the hot summer months, I'll play sleeveless and I've been hit by upgraded guns in the bare arms. The resulting "whelts" looked like some of the ones in the pictures above. They didn't hurt - but pain is a relative thing - but they've turned into permanent scars - they were very, very deep. I'm not complaining, cause it really doesn't bother me on my arms, I just wanted to let people know that an airsoft gun shooting 400 + fps can cause the damage seen in those pics. I find it funny that a guy on an airsoft forum calls other people pussies, while he hides behind his computer. -DB

A mouth guard is a simple and comfortable alternative. Your teeth aren't getting shot out while wearing one. You can cut off the rear portion (the part that covers your molars) since it's not really needed. You can drink while wearing one as well as talk if you don't mind sounding slightly mealy-mouthed.
With eye protection and a mouthguard all you have to worry about is the flesh. The permanents are out of harm's way. Stock guns are certainly enough to break teeth, skin, and eyeballs. |

lolz i got went to a dollarrama today and i saw like balaclavas for like...1 dollar....i bought one just to see what would happen if i got shot with a stock TM MP5SD5 gun using 0.2 gram bb. My friend who isn't an airsofter got the lucky task of shooting me. Little did i know that he has no aiming skills for a target 10 ft away.....he missed 5 times on semi auto.....yes i had googles on...ok the one that did hit hurt a little but it didn't leave a mark.

What i do when i get in contact at games. (I wear shooting glasses) I hide my teeth behind my stock of my AK, roll my lips up during battle, and remain calm so your not panting like oprea winfrey running after the buss, it would suck getting a BB down the ol pipe.

@Aper:
Is a shimagh the thing you are wearing in your Avatar? Is it better/thicker than the thing your buddy with the AK is wearing in your sig? (what is that called? a jihad-bandana :P ?) Also, to anyone who has tried a balaclava, do they get excessively hot? So could I wear one in summer in CQB comfortably? I'm definately wanting to go with full facial protection as a mouth guard alone may protect your teeth, but your lips are still exposed (and will be even more so with a mouth guard pushing them outwards). And those will pop like cherries (and require stitches) if you get shot in them, no?
