I'm just talking ergonomics and familiarity. Don't let me stop you from getting into a different system though, I myself love variety.

The L makes a lot more sense but I still love the look of the H. If I can get a good deal on one, I can stomach the cost of the mags. |

the vfc scar has a tiny little bastard of a hex screw keeping the selector cams on the gearbox on. You will need a tiny little bastard of a hex driver to get it off. It's not included in regular tool sets, you need to get a precision driver set. pesto probably has the exact size you need.
the G&G scar would not be my first choice between them, the wiring is not as bad as pesto makes it out, there is real wire from both the vfc and g&g out of the gearbox/motor to the rear of the lower receiver, then it switches to the dumbest wiring system for BOTH where they have tabs and nipples that hook up so you can take break down the gun like the real steel version. Neither are particularly great for serious upgrading later on, but the vfc is the better of the 2. Both are very inefficient and lossy for electrical systems due to this pin/contact system. Also, if you like different, don't let price sway you from a gun you might want more. If it's a technical/upkeep thing, then sure, you don't want to be left with a 500$ paperweight. Some guns will be more expensive to run because they are not a m4 or ak, that's just the way it is. Just keep in mind the added price for mags and gear to carry those mags.

The mag's aren't too bad. 190 rounds and they are the same price as a Gas Mag.

Yeah I handled the H at the local shop yesterday, and it's such a bad ass rifle. I like the L but the big, squared off Mag in the H and the larger receiver just take it to the next level.
Same reason I bought a G36-type AEG for CQB, just like the way it handles and looks. |

Well, you just like more unique guns, what can we say? I don't see many people with G36's in CQB these days.

The hex key size on the VFC is either 0.9 or 1.3... I don't remember.
As for wiring, nether are particularly good but G&G is actually quite a bit worse. They both have tabs at the back of the lower receiver so it can be removed by taking out one pin. After those tabs VFC just has a set of hinge tabs to hide the wiring in the folding stock and from there it goes straight to the battery. G&G on the other hand has an extremely retarded system inside the stock that keeps the wiring out of the way of the battery when you disassemble the stock for battery installation, and a way to have the wires move with the stock as you extend it... There are two fucking rods with contacts that slide along them as you stock moves. Infinitely worse. As for unique, I know a lot of special peeps. My opinion is that instead of getting some weird proprietary platform to be special, get a generic platform with lots of support and then make it better than everyone else's :P that'll get you the attention you want. |

I hate that I'm sounding like the Wet Blanket Brigade, but her I go again:
Building and using a 7.62 delivery rig is an expensive adventure in gear management. The same set of reasons why 7.62 mags make you feel all "hell yeah" makes them a pain in the ass to rig. Looking at a stack of ten of the damn things and finding places to put them on your body will cause much frowning. It's a rabbit - hole of gear, I tell you. This is also the part where I ignore what you'd actually like, project my own desires onto you, and insist that if you want a Special Snowflake 7.62 impractical bullshit rifle, you should get a G3 or an FAL. (Good luck with your SCAR, either one.) |

I just want to say I really do appreciate all this advice, even if I don't follow it all. I have always learned the hard way, but getting a dose of experience never hurts.
Edit: It is done. I ordered a VFC SCAR-L Deluxe. Go me. Last edited by WinnipegDragon; January 30th, 2015 at 15:06.. |
