What was used as the base gun for that VSS? just an AK?

First off, gas in itself is inconsistent. Less of an issue if you take time between shots and don't play in cold weather. But it just is. Next, the hopup design on those models is a poor design and leads to inaccurate shooting. The zeke long loading nozzle was supposed to correct this, but it has been sold out on wgc forever, and in any case -who knows if it actually delivers. Additionally, the inner barrel is somewhat free-floating and leads to resonance. This can be corrected somewhat but it would have been better if it was rock solid, such as on the AK aeg. Lastly, I think too many people put too much stock in fps. Keep in mind, no one wants to bad mouth their own rifle, as they know they'll probably be trying to sell it in the near future. Like I said, a sniping platform is all about consistency. Even if it shoots way left, if it hits the same place every time it's got some hope. My experience has been that about one in three tanaka bbs go where the crosshairs are. Sometimes close enough is good enough, but then it's not getting you a hit you couldn't have got with an aeg. That being said, I also once had a tanaka kar98 and it was quite accurate (though still not perfect). The lack of a non-scout mount and my unwillingness to tap the receiver made me sell it. But again, the gas issue. I also had a spring m24 and it was much better, consistency-wise (though once again, it needed improvement). I've also used an L96 with all the upgrades. This was as close as I've seen to what I'm talking about, although I've seen another one with pretty much the same setup be nothing but problematic -not to mention it took a ton of upgrades to get it there. I'd like to see the manufacturer put all their current aesthetic effort into producing consistent shots, to a point where it is something noteworthy. Do you realize the amount of time, money, and effort people spend on real steel doing things like 'unitizing the gas system', 'gas cylinder shimming', making handloaded ammo with a powder trickler, taking a micrometer to their ammo to adjust overall length by a thousandth of an inch so it's just off the lands -all in the interests of tightening their group by some tiny fraction? There's an entire industry devoted to this. I'd like to see that kind of fanaticism for accuracy exist in airsoft. I realize it's just a loose tolerance bb in a smoothbore barrel, but there's still a science to tightening the airsoft group, and it would be nice if the sniper rifles just came that way out of the box.

By all current accounts, the VFC Barrett is garbage. Search on Arnie's for it, some inherently poor design flaws that can't be solved by a drop-in fix. Looks good on the wall though I guess...

No, that is not the same gun. The L96 is essentially what Counterstrikers know as the AWP/AWM.
