yes agreed, the sniper close up was a bad decision a little longer shot and you would forgive them. looks like a kid in a balaclava. But great work and yes wwii feel with a good break p of action sequences.
Cheers

If you watched the video I posted....

They used 3DS max for most of the modelling.

And they added layers over the video to add the 'grunge' effect which in addition helped make it harder to notice most of the guys were rendered, not real.

You could do it yourself if you wanted to, the easy but tedious way would be frame by frame for blowing off that snipers head. Simple, but it would work.

Just watch the vid I posted it somewhat gives you a very short glimpse at some of the background behind some of the shots.

I would suspect that would be achievable with... A camera, a professional or higher end consumer video editing software (Such as Final Cut Pro), photoshop, and 3DS max... And for some more ease a green screen. (Gotta love having access to one comes in handy so much.)

If you had the spare time, and the software/equipment handy, you could pull something like this off. The preproduction/production wouldn't be too much work... It's just having the time to do the post production to get it looking nice.

Best way to learn is to teach yourself. Takes a little while but its one of the best, and it gives your final product a certain style/feel that protrains more to who you are.

Well sleepy time. It's 5:40 am, wow.

G'nite.

The quality of the muzzle flash and impact was pretty spectacular, how did they do that?

I've done some similar stuff (not as good) in the past. My favourite program is Discreet Combustion. It's a powerhouse for this kind of thing.

Some more background information. I agree it was very well done, too bad there wasn't more a plot or story, instead of it just being some eye candy.

Well that was incredible for a colledge movie, when those guys graduate from their class they will definetly make some cool action movies. A few things bugged me, although I am nit picking but I personally didnt like the way the soldiers behaved in battle, it looked to much like a video game, they were just running about taking no cover and just getting shot (although the reason for that might be because the "raid" soldiers were getting owned by a sneak attack by the "special forces" and might have been trying to flee).

Also, they worked so hard to get cool effects but the sounds were low quality. The mp5sd was ridiculous, why would a "raid" soldier use a silenced smg? (although I must also take into effect that the weapon choice of the creators might have been limited) and also it had a flash even if it was a silenced weapon.

The drop ship was so stupid, I mean seriously this movie was very well done and they worked really hard but a box shaped dropship that moves while decending even if its thrusters were all on the botom? If it wouldnt have moved it would have been more credible since it would be some sort of pod dropped from a mothership and uses thrusters to slow its decent. None the less it was well done though. And finally for the sniper, he was totally out of place, a sniper that follows special forces in a raid? the reason he got owned is because of his decision to go after fleeing soldiers instead of taking a vantage point. Ok really finally the last thing that bugged me was that the guy who shoots the sniper seemed to have an mp5sd and after he shot him, he friggen cocked his gun..

Anyways, besides all those little things this movie was incredibly impressive and props go to the creators for all their hardwork.
