I'll probably stick with Eeyore's second part, as he said he wanted to make sure he has a back-up but I don't see these breaking anytime soon.

I picked up an RA-Tech 6.01 open bolt barrel, it says double cut for AEG or open bolt. I don't have an AEG barrel to compare it against so I can't say for sure. I was going to crack open my 1911 and check that barrel but I haven't had time. I would like to know 100% that answer as well though.

Just got the open bolt kit. On all the youtube vid's it shows all the parts. On my kit it comes with a large rubber spacer attached to the end of the spring retainer. Is this something new or did it always come with this? I never seen it in the vid's when they put an open bolt kit in.

I think with this rubber spacer it might have fixed the cracking/breaking of part 27 and 66.

I added and extra neoprene grommet on the spring as well to give an extra buffer to the blow back. Still as much kick as the closed bolt had even with the extra rubber. I have put 10 clips through zeroing the riffle and adjusting hop-up. Checked part 27 and 66 and no signs of cracking. I'm still not taking a chance though and going to put on deadly's 27 and the CNC 66.

Yeah, they added the rubber buffer to the gen 3 (I think?) Open Bolt SCARs, so it makes sense they updated their OB kit with it as well. Most of the people who've broken the part have it, though, so it's not of that much help.

I had a mouse pad glued to the end on mine. It definitively lengthened the time it took to break, but it still broke after a while.

Open bolt has seemed to fix the accuracy issues so far. Some people I play with have the WE M4 closed bolt. They report the same accuracy issues at about 100ft the bb will break right or left at random. This would indicate it is probably not only a hop-up issue but probably the loading and gas delivery system as well. The double stack feed and aggresive loading of the bb's might be causing minor bb damage effecting bb flight path. A harder bb might help but I have not tested this.

A suggestion was to try a silica bb and I was woundering if anyone has tried that on a closed bolt?

Open bolt hop up was a big relief for me. I would not want to use silica cause they are a no no at my local games. But I have heard that heavier bbs get more success.

Ross,
have you tried KSC 0,3gr BBs? I always use it for my we scar and wa m4 and it can shoot further and accurate with my stock iron sight.
I can shot within 30-40meters distance until bb flight went down and it never went bananas

I have used .3 gram bbs with the closed bolt system. (not ksc though) It was better than .2s but overall performance was still bad. 30-40 meters is only 100 feet. With the open bolt and tight bore my range is closer to 200 feet. with .25s.

wow, thats quite a range you got.
never had the chance to play in a bigger arena here, so the 30-40m were the estimated longest straight shot i ever made.
havent upgraded my barrel yet, but since you mentioned far better performance Im considering for an upgrade.
what inner barrel do you recommend?
