Truly, the only thing that matters is what works for you.
In my opinion, shooting is approx 20% physical, 80% mental. A brand new shooter needs to be shown an exact way to hold a weapon and an exact technique to get them to an acceptable level. Once they have become proficient and can shoot decently by the book, they can start to expiriment with other techniques and what becomes comfortable for them. Shooting is truly an art where the end justifies the means. If you can get 1" groupings at 300m by firing from the hip one handed with no shirt on while wearing aviator sunglasses, smoking a cigar, and listening to fortunate son then KEEP DOING IT. Vertical grips were designed for close quarts because when you pull the weapon in close to the shoulder your muscles pull the weapon down and to the left... when you fire a weapon (M16 variants anyway) on full auto, they climb up and to the right. This vert grip helps counter that climb.

How do you hold a bolt action while standing?... I've seem to have a ton of trouble keeping my cross-hair on target...
Anyways, I'm a foregrip guy. On my M16, there's a foregrip. On my MP5, there's a foregrip. On my Glock 17, there's a forgrip... Ya, I'm pretty bad with that. |

when standing, i often cradle the rifle with my left, shoot with my right. Has better stabilitity in my opinion. To cock the rifle, i just slap it with my epeen.
And no, Amos's fly isnt open. CF Winter Whites have no fly, its just a drawstring thats tied together at the top. Come to think of it... why the fuck are you looking down there?!

This is some of the top CF Service Rifle members/shooters of this year. You can draw your own conclusions I guess. P.S. Not saying it is a good or a bad grip. But you do what works for you.

Errr, the grip holding the mag that's a really, really bad one. The C7/8 has exaclty the same flaw as the M4 : the mag only has one point of contact with the receiver (mag catch) that is one of the best recipe for jamming the gun.
I jammed my 416 once like that. For those who don't know the gun it's the third most reliable 5.56 in the world (first and second are XM8 and G36) and almost never jam if used correctly... andthe future USMC SAW (with Cmag)... more to get rid of M4 than having a new SAW actually. XD The users of G36 and HK417 (both 2nd and first gen) know they can do that because the mag is secured on its edges, cannot go further in or deviate |

What ever position you are holding your gun, it should be comfortable and you can hold it for extended period (ie, whole game).
Dont adjust your shooting posture that you are comfortable with just to feel "right" because someone else tell you to. Well, if ur current posture is comfy but u cant hit anything at 100, for sure feel free to adjust

I have an ME SCAR MK16 GBBR with a foldable foregrip with a flashlight built-in, and I just keep the foregrip folded in, holding the rifle either by the mag/mag well or by the space on the rails in between the mag well and foregrip.
