Bingo. AEG should be limited to 400fps PERIOD, semi or not. If the user has an MP5K to use while stalking around or on patrol and a 450fps M14 on their back for occasional use, I've ZERO problem with that, they will actually gain more respect from me. Guys like Mason can use an M14 up to 450fps as a primary and get no complaints from anyone, because he's always on the flanks or near the rear to reinforce the front. Is the way he plays, and is the experience he has. And he's earned the trust from everyone to use that type of gun. Noobs with high powered AEGs, or even vets that are used to more than one BB in the air at a time, moving to an AEG that is over 450fps and swearing to use semi only all the time tend to forget that they are trying to run with the sniper role when under stress, and end up bouncing quite a few BBs off a guy at shorter ranges than they'd understand to be part of the sniper's creed bs.
While I'd never use or set up for myself an AEG as a sniper rifle, I'm sure I'm one of the few that'd get the full go ahead to use a 450fps+ M14 or such, just because I like watching where my single round goes, then compensate for the next shot. Add to that my comfort zone for shooting someone during a game (teammates don't count). |

Does not have Norris doll, Does not have impenetrable wall of empty beer cans, No trail of ghille burlap, and no sponge bob-square pants impression boots! Yeah Stalker I think Ronan's cheating on you with another sniper! LUTNIT, you already know I agree with your statements, but the fun thing is when you get your sights on a "vet" and call surrender on him, and he turns and shoots yelling "I surrender to no one!" That whole thing just makes it annoying as hell. And when I did it I had my APS in hand because I was firing shots much further down range and the person close enough I didn't have time to draw my side arm. If I would had fired I am positive the round could have done some damage. I didn't fire but he did, just a stock gun so it didn't hurt or anything but it sure leaves a sour taste in your mouth when shit like that happens. Overall the sniper rifle is an illusive airsoft item for most in general I do believe. Everyone gets their hands on one and expects it to be something like a real one, insanely accurate. But fail to realise that feet in airsoft is tens of yards in real steel. A lot of them get discouraged because rounds are not sitting on top each other at 100ft. And fail to take the time to figure out how to control the round that far out, like Stalker talks about. Also the biggest advantage that a bolt action rifle can give you over an AEG is silence. A TM M14 can be pretty quiet for an AEG, but still makes noise. A gas M700 would be hard to hear at 10 ft, and some spring rifles ((yeah we know Stalker)) can hardly by heard standing beside! If you can control your movement, and not get spotted, you'll have lots of time to cycle the bolt. But if you do, its most handy to have your primary there ready to grab and be able to return fire while making a speedy retreat to try and sneak in again. Also I should point out that I am just kidding about Stalker, he never does drink on the field.

Man, the timing was most excellent!

Anyone who thinks sniping is glamorous and rules all the time, or that 400+fps is the way to go, has zero experience.
You want to TOUCH your target with a BB, not blow a hole through them. |

If being a sniper in airsoft was the 1337 way to go, don't you think I'd do it full time? It's a pain in the ass, extremely challenging and not pleasant. Hence why 90% of my playing is with M24 slung on my back and I act like a normal player with my MP5.

Im with you on that one Stalker, the majority of the time my M700 is resting against a tree at respawn/reload. Sniping can be enjoyable, but its not my playing style thats for sure. Im not really even forward assault type, my playing style is more like...
"hey when we cap this next point, just leave me there, Im to fat to keep up"

I love the thrill of assaulting and rushing the other side with a coordinated attack. Snipers, just like in real life, are a support element, not the spearhead of some sort of assault. They are there to scout 99% of the time, and engage in actual combat 1% of the time. But hey, hiding and sneaking and reporting enemy numbers and movements back to base is fun, too.

i think most people like the idea of a DM (designated marksman), a person in a squad with an accurized (spelling?) weapon, but still gets to be part of the action so to speak, and is called on to perform special tasks, like removing a long distance threat that normal rifles can't reach. In my 'travels' this is what most newbs want or desire, not to actually be what stalker is (a true airsoft sniper).
Just my 2 cents... Last edited by Donster; December 4th, 2007 at 12:23.. |

There are lots of good semi-auto real sniper rifles...and a sniper should re-locate after making contact.
