AFAIK its only MPs(and Signallers in MP units), Boarding Party and SOF use the Sig Sauers.

I've only seen the MP P225s in person and I know they aren't railed. Makes sense that Navy would have the rail to add on lights, etc. I'am guessing its only Boarding Party guys that get the Sigs?

Boarding party for the most part but also certain members of the Force protection watches and certain members of a standard duty watch in foreign ports. From my experience it's mainly supervisors of said watches and those that deal with visitors coming aboard the ship that carry the Sig. With all that being said, a decent portion of the ships company is qualified on the Sig and can use them if the situation dictates us using them, even lowly Ordinary Seaman such as myself.

When I did my Sig Qual a couple months back it was the railed P226.

well i have been using a 225 since '98-ish, so unless you got training on a weapons system not yet in use by the navy as a whole or by CP/Dwyer Hill folk then I woul d be very VERY surprised if it was a railed 226

It's possible that I am incorrect if I remember correctly I had been woken up after being on the mids to go qualify and I was probably pretty out of it but what I do remember is the p226 markings on it. Damn I wish it was the boys from Dwyer hill that trained us, I would not say no to that

the 225 is a single stack whereas the 226 is a double stack.

Yea.. no the P228 is not in current service.

Like I said earliar we have the P225 an P226.

There may be 226's in CF Inventory, but not for issue to anyone but "special" folks.

The 225 is current issue to various folks, mostly Navy, but also to some other units (ie MP's, force protection, etc.)

The venerable Browning Hi-Power is still the issue service pistol to the Canadian Army. If you want me to dig out the reference doc, I can do so at work on monday.

I have fired good and bad Brownings. But most of the "bad" Brownings I've seen have functioned nearly 100% when the old magazines are replaced with new ones.

Our pistol team had 20 Brownings, and they were well cared for....and the only jams we ever had were attributable to damaged or bent feed lips on the magazines, or, in two cases, cracked barrels. That BLR'd the pistols (Beyond Local Repair) so we got replacements....that were effectively brand new.

The last time a Browning HP was made for the Canadian military was in 1945. That's when the Inglis Factory stopped building them. We're still shooting them new from warstock. An acquaintance of mine had one that he got, literally NEW IN THE BOX, including the wartime lend-lease decal on the front-strap completely intact. Amazing. should have been in a museum!

Anyhow.

We've since moved on to Sigs, and have 10 Sig 225's. Single stack, 8 shots (+1 in the chamber) and I have been outshot by shooters with Brownings, firing side by side on the same firing point. There are good BHP's out there, and when combined with good mags, and a skilled shooter, they are a force to be reckoned with.
