It is a grenade launcher, you can see the trigger just in front of the box mag. It still looks efficient, you would just use your right hand the pull the trigger and use leave your left on the top grip.

Yes and no.... it's a 37mm less lethal launcher. (teargas, rubber bullets and the like only)

and the Pulse rifle is actually a thompson SMG with a remingtion 870 shotgun installed in a body kit.......

Also an interesting fact: The smart gun's base is actually a Steadicam mount for cameras.

Another another interesting fact fact:

Aliens was one of the first major motions pictures to heavily use steady cams. Most films to date only used them for specialty shots.
