Help! Goggles and backpacks
I need some advice on a few things.
First off, I wear prescription glasses, and I need airsoft-approved goggles that fit over them. These are the ones I'm debating between in buying: http://www.esseyepro.com/Striker-TurboFan_7_detail.html http://www.esseyepro.com/Land-Ops_4_detail.html http://www.esseyepro.com/Tactical-SC...18_detail.html Does anyone have any experience with either of these? If so, it is greatly appreciated. Secondly, I would like to know if anyone has ever seen a multicam, tan, or brown backpack that can be attached to the back of a vest via it's own MOLLE straps? The vest I want (Flyye force recon vest, Land.) Would have some problems with a typical pack. Also, having a hydration carrier in the pack would be great. Thanks for all of your input in advance.

Well you ask just a little early. I just ordered the Striker Tactical with Turbofan and the prescription insert. I purchased them from SealsActionGear in Calgary(so you are fairly close). The staff there was awesome, answering my questions via email within minutes every time. Thank you Trina.
I ordered them on Monday so I don't expect them until next week sometime. If you are still undecided by then I will give you my impressions. Trina told me she tried them with presciption glasses and they pushed on her face some. So I ordered the prescription insert, when I get them I will take them to my local optometrist to get lenses made for the insert. It's gonna cost a fortune but my eyes get the best. Costing me enough that I could have bought another aeg for my arsenal, lol. Anyway, for the money I hope they are good. |

Several models of tactical goggles have RX inserts available for them. I use the ESS Profile NVGs. It'll require you get an extra set of lenses made for them, but its a lot more comfortable than wearing glasses under goggles.
As for a backpack, it depends on how big a pack you want. The Eagle Modular Assault Pack, AKA. MAP (also available as an excellent repro from PANTAC) does this. It fits a 3L hydration bladder (standard Camelbak style) and has some space to carry other items. The PANTAC version comes with a bladder, too. I replaced mine with a Source bladder (taste free and easy maintenance, as used by several military forces). Link to the PANTAC version: http://ascmart.ca/product_info.php?c...products_id=68 Source hydration bladder: http://www.cpgear.com/StoreBox/hydration/6057.htm Edit: pic of the MAP on a plate carrier for size reference The PANTAC version also has an extra feature with shoulder straps stowed in a hidden compartment so the pack can be used by itself (without being mounted on MOLLE)

I have a pair of ESS Land Ops and They fit over my glasses just fine, no insert required (though ess does have those).

Screw the MAP man... it sucks (at least I think so), had two of these and the fact that you always need someone else to grab things for yourself is a major cons to me... (unless you take off the whole rig). Also a real Eagle one is the SAME price (or almost) as a friggin' 3 day pack (wich is much more versatile).

Granted the MAP does require a buddy, that's going to be the case for any pack that attaches directly to MOLLE (which is what OP asked about). I rarely find myself alone, and more often than not am playing alongside friends, so I don't find it a major issue. I've got a 3 Day Assault Pack (issued SDS one), it's an awesome pack. I use it for everything.

Ess Advancers with Rx inserts. Been using them for about a year now and they are amazing.

I use the LandOps with the Rx insert and a homemade goggle fan. Works like a hot damn, kind big though. The Profiles are a lower profile version.
As for the pack issue, I run two different colored loadouts, set up identically other than for one has an Eagle MAP pack, the other has a Tactical Tailor hydration pack (it just holds the hydration bladder or slim hydration pack). As I don't use a day/backpack for most games, the MAP is good for a decent amount of stuff you need for ingame, like a 3 litre hydration pack and an MRE or two. The MAP pack totally sucks if you're trying to carry an additional day/backpack. It digs into your back and the other pack won't carry well at all. It wants to slide from one side or the other or stick to one side and the shoulder straps are a bitch to get tight enough to stop it from moving. The TT hydration pack allows me to easily carry an additional pack I can drop at my teams base and use as I see fit for when I return (to get more ammo, carry a couple of extra hydration bladders, carry many MRE's or other food, field stove, etc.)

I don't really see the need for anything like a MAP if you're just skirmishing. I just carry a ruck up and dump it in the respawn area. There's nothing in it I'm going to need in the middle of a skirmish. Now if you're playing long sims then yeah maybe.

I have a few Rx frames that you mount inside your Goggs. Instead of looping behind your ears they tension mount to the frame of your Tact goggs Scuba mask or Ski goggs. The sell for $20 then go to costco and get the Rx lenses put in for $50. Problem solved. They fit most Styles and brands of Goggs.
Back Packs that attch straight to your Tact vest, make your tack vest sit unbalanced and heavy. Hydration is one thing but recommend a small backpack over an oversize Molle pouch. Cheers |

MAP is useful for carrying items you may need on the field and may not want to go all the way back to respawn/camp for, but won't need immediate access to: stuff like a spare battery, small first aid kit, bottle of Gatorade or a snack. Even a poncho or something if you're playing in weather with a strong possibility of downpour.
But like Kuro_Neko, if its just a small skirmish and the spawn area (with your backpack) is a 2 min walk away, there's little need.
