GID AMMO tricks

You've probably seen these. But how the heck do you "charge them up" prior to firing?

Look what costco wrought- three of these puppies for under $15. Each one has twenty, "hurt you bright" LED's. NO IDEA of the rating power, or spectrum. But a good deal is a good deal, so, let's play a bit!

Real GLASS domes, paper-thin. Pry it apart at the seam, and watch your fingers, because you'll NEED them later.

This is forty of them, enough for this project...

Soldering jig.

Thank you, Mr. ShopBot. Spares! you shouldn't have.

OMG...He's building a DeathStar!

Mondo D-cells can power this, because it's for a stationary gun.

Bright Light, BRIGHT LIGHT!!!

Now, an UMP install, 10 cheapo LED's in the magazine.

Five LED's down each side, as you can see, an UMP mag has room to get pretty crazy with. There is room for three times this many LED's- if you went with GOOD ones, I bet you could make a respectable tracer unit with it.

Connector for power input. Note how the cabling is routed with dots of ABS glue.
Questions?

Awesome.

I built an "attachment" with 10 LEDs...but it didn't work very well. The "death star" idea and jig is a great one...I'll try that next!

NOTE: Putting the "StarChamber" on the end of a muzzle doesn't work at all. The BB's pick up ZERO glow effect going through.
36 of these LED's don't even FAZE a BB at 375FPS. I would bet I could double or triple the setup, and it still wouldn't work on a muzzle.
I would further bet that these could be the BEST UV's available, and do little better.

BB's are indeed going too fast to get charged. A mag or hopup unit works MUCH better in comparison.

A Tokyo Marui Tracer has a Xenon flash tube in it... The tracer units are literally bomarding the BB with lumens to get them lit.

But in the feed path to the gun, the BB's get plenty of illumination.

Defying the math, the StarChamber actually has a "warm-up" interval where it is much weaker. After the first 100 shots or so, the BB's are REALLY glowing coming out.

A small blacklight. Put one inside a boxmag, maybe?

Try UV LED's, I used 6 positioned at the end of a homemade suppressor with the UV light shining in toward the barrel - it worked great.

I used a 7 LED flash light housing. Drilled out the middle hole to accommodate the bb's. I then filled the remaining 6 slots with UV LED's. The glow was incredible!

You can buy them from china off of Ebay for cheap they also come with resistors.

agreed with the uv leds... also made a cheapo test tracer silencer ... i think i used like 8 of them (5mm 0.5w) and it worked pretty well! also made a tracer hicap... yeah a hicap (cheapo kracken one)... with 2 x 5mm 0.5w uv led in it and it works amazingly well!

now if someone would just make a clear, ultra strong and reliable hopup unit, we could all build internal GID units that would reveal zero muzzle flash.
