CA G36C Grinding noise

I recently purchased this new earlier this week and was in my basement adjusting the hopup / sights to get it shooting properly but then it started making very loud grinding sounds from the gearbox area. BBs stopped feeding and even dry fire causes it to grind loudly.
Any suggestions?

Grinding noise is most typically made by a stripped piston. Hopefully that's the problem, as pistons are cheaper to replace than gears.

CA pistons are somewhat flaky that way, some people have good experiences with them, some people have terrible experiences.

My thought is it could be the motor not sitting in place properly maybe? I have had that happen to me before where my motor was not in place and making really loud grinding noises, so try pushing your motor in a bit more or pull it out a bit

unless the bevel gear and or the pinion is stripped, it will still shoot/feed.

it's more likely what The Saint suggested and hopefully it's just the piston.

Well yea obviously. I was on full auto when it first happened, I switched it to semi and fired off 2 rounds to see if it was the same and then ejected the mag and tried again. All produced the same sound so I stopped there.

It could be a number of things. All of the above guesses could be correct, but they are only guesses. It has to be taken apart - either by you or a gun doctor.

If you are not comfortable with gearbox disassembly you could still check the motor pinion gear and it's placement (it may be too late for placement to fix it now though - may need replacement) without getting right into opening the box itself.

My first guess would be motor height. Sounds like the motor is too low.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
The doctor opened it up (i'm not comfortable working with internals) and showed me the problem. Like some of you guys said, the little gear ontop of the motor (pinion(sp?)) is stripped/deformed. He said that luckily the other gears weren't affected but i'll need a new pinion(sp). He said there was a little screw on the pinion that was missing so it wasn't aligned properly which is what caused it to grind. Unfortunately I can't check airsoftparts.ca to see whether or not they sell these little gears (he said these were special since the hole where it plugs into isn't round, that it is flattened on one end and held in with a tiny screw so he can't just throw an aftermarket on. I did find some OEM Classic Army ones on some American sites though so I guess worse case scenario is that I have some (I think i'll get some extras just in case...) shipped from across the border.

It's just sad since I won't be able to play in tomorrow's game at FTF
