Conversion Designing help

I'm looking into trying to create a conversion body kit to make a modified MA5B out of any AEG I could find, particularly the M4 AEG. But for my design to work, there's something I got to ask: when you remove the stock on any of the armorlite guns, there's a little part that sticks out behind the handgrip. Does it matter if I cut that off or does that have to stay there? If the M4 doesn't work, what gun should I be looking for. The only reason why i'm looking into the M4 is because the magazines are so common, it'll be easy to substitute.
