Anyone have any opinions on the WE SCAR? I'm interested in picking one up, I just don't want to pay $600 for a gun that might be poor.

Is it any different from the M4 variants? Either one better?

Thanks

Personally, I do not like the looks of the SCAR...just not my thing. Putting that aside, as a technical opinion...the M4 is a better build. They share common issues (other threads discuss those)...but the SCAR has three additional design failures built in.
1. Plastic stock hinge plate that takes the force of the bolt for every shot
2. The way the piston body attaches to the bolt body is weak
3. The bolt is overly heavy and "massive"...accelerates wear and tear

All three can be easily fixed with aftermarket parts though...so it's not a show stopper.

* factor in who is giving other opinions...and consider taking them all with a grain of salt...mine included.

Time to add in on this, I gamed my scar today.

1) Have you brought this to a game and utilized the WE M4 AWSS? *Name the field you utilized this AWSS*
-Yes, impromptu scrim outside the city on an open field day.

2) How did it perform to your expectation?
-Performed better than expected. Had one incident where a mag vented while attempting to take an objective but a quick mag change and I kept going.

3) Would you recommend a WE M4 (realism) or an AEG (practicality)?
-I totally recommend the m4/scar for the realism, reloading and charging the mags was not an issue. My gun performed on par with the AEGs that were running so practicality goes to the gas platform as well.

4) Has the WE M4 AWSS failed you in the heat of battle? What did you do to rectify the problem? Did you have a backup?
-Yes, I guess. Mag vented on me, possibly my fault for not making sure it was seated properly. Quick mag change fixed the issue.

5) How do you feel overall about the WE M4 AWSS? What would you change?
-No complaints as of yet but I'll reserve judgement on changes that should or could be made after I field the gun some more.

6) Would you choose the WE M4 AWSS to be your primary again after that experience?
-Yes, without question.

7) Any other comments you would like to share with the airsoft community?
-None atm.

WE M4 and WE SCAR

my team at this point is using both as primary on both outdoors and indoors. Yet to hear any comlplains from them. I own both plus and upgrade AGM. Issue for me with AGM is MAGS too expenssive.

My two cents

Mine hasn't been gamed yet, I need to drop the FPS but I borrowed one for a night game at Flag Raiders

2) How did it perform to your expectation?

I was extremely impressed with the performance

3) Would you recommend a WE M4 (realism) or an AEG (practicality)?

WE M4

4) Has the WE M4 AWSS failed you in the heat of battle? What did you do to rectify the problem? Did you have a backup?

Absolutely not, it performed to a higher standard than I'm used to with my M4 AEG

5) How do you feel overall about the WE M4 AWSS? What would you change?

Not much, slimmer C8 style handguards but that's it

6) Would you choose the WE M4 AWSS to be your primary again after that experience?

Oh hell yes

7) Any other comments you would like to share with the airsoft community?

WE M4 make you happy, love you long time

I'll add in a 2nd hand field report from the last FR noob day...

I put an experimental modified FPS adjustment valve into ShelledPants' WE M4. Worked fine in the workshop to setup and afterwards for testing...but after two mags at the game his valve separated from the rod. He'll come by tonight to get a different setup installed...and I want to see the threads that were stripped.

Doesn't really speak to "out of the box"/stock performance...but it is a cautionary tale.
1. Prototypes can fail....to be rectified soon.
2. Loctite is essential.

The nozzle/rods of most factory WE's come RED loctite'd. They need significant heat to dislodge/separate parts (typically not necessary to do so).

I am absolutely certain that some upgrade/replacement/extra parts kits do not come loctite'd at all...either loose parts or come hand-tight screwed together. You must loctite them before game use.

If/when you do take things apart...temporary (blue) loctite is a MUST DO. Things will stay in place not-loctite'd for a couple of shots (i.e. to test that you've got everything put together properly, fps adjusted, etc...)...but you MUST loctite it before general use. With temp/blue loctite, a bit of focused heat will break the bond (propane torch usually works in 1-3sec).

It is prudent with all GBBRs to regularly eyeball/maintain things:
- check for adequate lubrication on bearing/pivot/contact spots
- check hopup rubber condition
- clean barrel
- all screws/nuts/inserts/etc...of the whole rifle haven't been shaken loose

Quoted for 100% Truth.

Clean and maintain your shit! You will minimize the requirement for replacement/repair.

I used it at adrenaline paintball in london.

2) How did it perform to your expectation?
It performed quite well. I was impressed, but I didn't get the range I wanted.

3) Would you recommend a WE M4 (realism) or an AEG (practicality)?
If you know how to maintain a GBBR I would definately recommend it.

4) Has the WE M4 AWSS failed you in the heat of battle? What did you do to rectify the problem? Did you have a backup?
Yes it has. The NPAS nozzel stripped right off the rod even after blue loctite was used. I had to go out to the staging area and fix it.

5) How do you feel overall about the WE M4 AWSS? What would you change?
Quite a good system. Love the field. The only thing I would change is the hopup system. I have a terrible time with it.

6) Would you choose the WE M4 AWSS to be your primary again after that experience?
Yes, I would use it as a primary.
