Caspian arms logo for WE 1911
Hey guys,
so i got a WE 1911 with the Caspian trades on it. My only problem is i just sanded the slide to repaint it, which also means i sanded out the trades (they were not engraved, only printed). Anyone know where i can get the Caspian Logo in a VECTOR file (like .ai or .eps, not .jpg), so i can get it engraved on it again? i looked on sites like Brandsoftheworld.com and couldnt find anything. please note, i'm not trying to steal or use their logo without permission. It was already on the gun, i figure i'm entitled to putting it back on it since they gave WE the permission to do so. I work in graphic design and i am well aware of the copyright laws. if anyone can help... thanks |

Check here on ASC, there is a member in Ontario that does custom engraving on pistols and guns. He might already have the correct trades. If you have a JPEG, you can extract the workpaths in Photoshop (then save the workpaths in Illustrator format). If you don't know how to do it, let me know. I just did my team logo to have the patches made. |

extracting workpaths from web jpegs always give shitty results, the paths are always jagged since the jpegs are low resolution.
I was just looking for an easy way out before i redo the logo. Which won't be such a big deal now because i found what font they used for it. Seriously tho, if WE was using the logo without Caspian's permission, they would face copyright lawsuits. I dont see how they wouldn't. anyways...problem solved i think. thanks for the heads up on the ontario dude tho. It would be pricy and a hassle to have to ship it there and stuff, so i'll just do it myself with a local engraver. cheers. |

That means that is you are producing a Caspian Arms pistol in the US, you are in trouble. If you do it in China or HK, good to go. Most companies will have trademarks registered in most eastern Europe and Americas... not so often in Asia... The gov. of the country also have to enforce the copyrights properly, which in this case would mean to close a factory and remove a large source of revenue from taxes and jobs... *edit Find a .png file, the image generally will have an alpha channel that gives out a quite clean workpath... You can also enlarge the image to 3000dpi, then smooth and extract the workpath with a higher tolerence value, making it really smooth. Then tweak the vector mask in Illustrator if needed. |

as i was saying tho, you'll never get a top quality logo by doing that, you can tweak it all the ways you want (trust me, its my job) but you never come close to the precise and exact result. I want perfection, i'll never work with web jpgs or pngs as a basis for my path.
Can't go wrong with finding the font and redoing the logo. You couldn't tell the difference between the one i made and the real one. wil upload a pic later... |

oh and side note, you are indeed right about the copyright-country thing, the only thing that makes me doubt they don't have permission is that if they didn't, they wouldn't be able to sell any of those guns in the US because they would be considered contraband and therefore would not make it through customs.

Or maybe Caspian don't give a damn. The law basically says that the copyright owner must make the procedures otherwise it is considered to be consented. |
