Proper Storage of Pistol mags

Question about what position to store pistol mags in.

I always leave my KWA USP mag with gas in it, but I store the gun and mag in the box, on it's side. I go back and check it every other week or so for pressure, and it's usually empty. It's a slow leak (I've checked days later and there is still pressure). Is there a proper "position" to store mags in? Should they be upright? Or is it completely normal for GBB mags to leak slowly over several weeks?

I've left mine for months filled with gas, in every manner of orientation, and they have never leaked unless I accidentally left without gas. Mind you, all my GBB mags are KSC (9 G19, 4 MK23), so I can't comment on any other brands.

Do a water test and see where the leak is coming from...None of my mags do that unless they are leaking. Usually fixed with Blue Gasket

who told you that?...

Gas mags need a little bit of gas to keep the orings working, or else, they'll dry and wont work....

I remember reading about it somewhere.. but man thanks for the heads up. Is it ok to have it semi filled instead of full?

I oil them and presurise them with gas.
I oil them before re-using them just to make sure, since I don't use my GBB often.

personally I store mine upright (with gas in them) as I have heard this is better, but I am not 100% sure if this is correct.

From personal experience of GBB's in the past (TM, KSC, WA, KWA and KJW) I can honestly tell you that the only thing that matters is that they remain filled at least partially during storage and I suggest you pull them out once in a while and apply a very small amount of lubrication to the valves and then store them inside a small plastic bag which you have sucked the air out of and sealed. I did this for two reasons. One if I had a long slow leak I would know by the bag having "puffed up" and I could address that. And two it keeps them isolated from moisture changes, also storing them in a box out of direct sunlight is probably a good thing too as it will keep them from making rapid temperature changes.

As for orientation I don't think it matters as long as they are properly lubed and partly charged before storage.

Cheers.

Agreed on the plastic bag idea. Mind you if I did that with all my gas mags, my airsoft storage room would look more like the Ikea kid's ball room. Lol

I DO label all my mags with my name and a number, that way if I find one has a leak or jam, I can ID it and take it out of circulation until I get a chance to fix it.

I use the half sandwich bags usually for smaller mags, But for the big ones such as my M11 Mags I actually used foodsaver vacuum bags, you just cut them alittle extra long and you can reuse them.

Labeling is nice too, But I ususally did not bother because I rarely had more then 1 or two different GBB at one time and as such I usually knew which was which. But it makes perfect sense.

I usually leave my TM Hicapa mags gassed up (whether it's a little or full) but sometimes not, and they're fine when I go back to use them. The ones with gas still have gas.

Sounds like you have a leaky/crappy mag man.

True, but when you have as many as I do (included all 20 or so MP5 mags in there)......... and also allows you to keep track of the numbers, as well as any lost will likely get returned if found.
