G&P
My G&P M4 metal upper receiver as the rear tabs for the rear body pins to go into. Will these need to be removed to get it to fit over the mechbox? So far I haven't been able to get the upper receiver onto the lower receiver with the mechbox installed.
All of the metal body assembly video I've seen have upper receivers without rear tabs. I'm curious to know why my G&P receiver would have them if they are not intended to be there.

You are correct, G&P uppers are secured via smaller tips that fit into the back of the lower.
Could it be possible that you do not actually have a G&P upper?

That's what I was thinking, it probably isn't a G&P receiver.

The lower receiver has G&P engravings. but I don't know if any knock-offs exist. I'll post pictures later today.

If worst comes to worst can you ask someone like Damage or Militia to take a look at it?

What do you mean "G&P engravings"? G&P receivers don't have anything that really specifies them as made by G&P, except for the quality and finish. There are multiple brands that copy G&P's designs that they engrave/etch/whatever onto their receivers.

G&P for about 8+ years nows have been using non tab bodies, odds are you have a knock off, or a really really old body. Any chance of thowing up a picture of the body you have and its markings?
Styrak, fyi G&P on some of their bodies do say G&P on them. Most of the newers ones don't, but I have seen a few old ones that do. Depends on which model you order from them. |

I was actually mistaken about the engravings. I'm thinking I just got bamboozled and was sold a knock-off. Hopefully I can grind off the tabs so I don't have a $350 paper weight.

Was it together when you purchased it? Or did you buy the upper and lower seperately in private deals? If bought seperately, odds are you got a guarder or some other knock off upper and are trying to mate it to a G&P or G&G style lower. Grinding off the tabs will only leave you with a paper weight if that is the case. As those tabs are what locks the upper receiver to the lower on that style of design.
G&P/G&G uppers use a different system, were the back end of the upper receiver sliders into the lower receiver and locks in where the stock bolt goes through. The tab system uppers lock in with the body pin. Grinding off the tabs will just allow it to slide off freely or pivot on the front body tab. |

I was finally able to get some photos up so you guys can see the body. I also just recently received a G&P metal body accessories kit because the body I have is bare. Lo and behold but some or all of the parts are not compatible without modification.

The G&P body has the Diemaco logo with "C8A1". The Guarder one has the maple leaf and only has "C8". The Guarder body has known fitting issues. Last edited by Affliction; May 29th, 2010 at 22:36.. Reason: Edited out pictures |

Now that the brand has been established, does anyone know how I get this thing onto a mechbox?
For curiosities sake, how much is a Guarder metal body worth?

Check and make sure that there's no "nub" on the mechbox blocking the ability of the lower to close. I had the same problem... thought it was just the mechbox I was using. The nub I'm referring to is a 1mm spacer pin that's part of the cast body of the mechbox. Once I snipped the pin off with a pair of side cutters and filed it down, the upper and lower fit together without issue. (Note: I have to put the mechbox in the lower, without the pistol grip attached, and sort of slide and wiggle everything together. It's not a smooth fit).
I didn't realize this isn't actually a G&P body... Anyway, don't force it, you'll snap off the tabs and that will affect the stability of the upper and lower when held together with the body pin. Quote:

You will have fitting issue if this older version. The newer ones does not.
