noobish vfc scar question

This is going sound noobish as an owner of a vfc scar l, but can anyone help me out in understanding how to unscrew the outer barrel? I know i have unscrew the locking nut under the gas regulator, but even then it won't budge.

You want to take the entire outer barrel module off? There's three screws on each side that need to be taken off. You also need to take off the lower receiver first as well.

On mine the outer barrel is just a reverse thread like the flash hider. Grab the barrel and spin off, nothing else to it.

what i was trying to do is change the barrel from std to cqb configuration if that help clear things up

Okay.

First of all, you need to be very careful. I would suggest not taking it apart if you don't know what you're doing. You might break a thing or two, like what I did, and learn a lot. But I wouldn't suggest it. Still, my gun doesn't work the way I want it. I should've taken Dai Viet's advice and play until it breaks.

But if you really insist, here is what you need to do to change the inner barrel.

Take off the lower receiver. You can do this by pushing out the little pin first. Then take off the outer barrel. There is a little spring in the hop up that will allow your inner barrel to move back and forth slightly. Pull the inner barrel a little bit, then your lower receiver should easily come off.

Next, unscrew the three little screws with the springs attached on each side with the provided tool that is hidden behind the hop-up adjuster. The entire barrel module should slide right off.

For each configuration, do you have a hop-up unit already attached to the smaller CQB inner barrel? If not, and you want to change just the inner barrel and not the hop-up, do the follow. It can be tricky though so I HIGHLY suggest asking someone with a lot of knowledge to help you out. It should come out perfect and not like mine where I have to continually work on the hop-up unit to fix out everything.

Now you need a 1.5mm Allen key to unscrew two little screws on each side of the little barrel where you hop-up is located. Once loosened, the hop-up unit should come right out, including your inner barrel.

Pop off the little C clip, remembering to keep equal pressure on both sides of the clip to prevent it from snapping. Also, it may shoot right off so make sure you catch it with something.

Now REMEMBER HOW IT SHOULD LOOK AT THIS POINT!!! Take a picture if you have to. It is highly important to know where the hop-up sleeve should sit, where the metal O-ring should sit, etc.

To take out the inner barrel, you need to slide the little metal O-Ring out of the hop-up unit. Then VERY VERY carefully, slide the inner barrel out of the hop-up unit with some silicon oil. This is a very slow process, especially if you want to reuse your hop-up sleeve.

Once out of the hop-up unit, make sure you don't lose the little hop-up rubber bucking. It looks like a little piece of rubber tubing.

Now you can slide the hop-up rubber right off and put it on your new inner barrel. Or you could just use a new hop-up sleeve. Next, use some silicon oil or spit (I'd suggest the oil for sure) on your hop-up sleeve. Now VERY carefully slide the inner barrel back into the hop-up sleeve, making sure not to stretch the sleeve. Make sure the hop-up rubber bucking is in place. This is used to push the sleeve into the inner barrel, thus giving the BBs hop-up.

Once completely in, look through the inner barrel against light or a bright wall to check and see if the lips of the hop-up sleeve do not come and impede the movement of the BBs. You should not see any rubber lips of the sleeve.

Now that you have the inner barrel in, put the O-ring back on along with the C clip. You may have to trim the sleeve if you're using a new sleeve and it is too long.

Put the hop-up unit back inside the barrel module and tightened the little screws with the 1.5mm Allen key. Place the barrel module back into the upper receiver and tighten the screws on each side. Pull the inner barrel a little bit to get the lower receiver back in. Push the pin to keep the lower receiver in place.

Now you're done and this is the basics of changing your inner barrel with no separate hop-up unit already attached.

I might have made some mistakes and my technique might be off but that's what I have been told. Anyone much more experienced, please make some comments if you have any.

Haha, thanks. I've got through a LOT of headaches and mistakes to learn what has been said in that thread and still, not exactly how I wanted it. Most likely because I didn't take a picture of the hop-up sleeve and where it should sit before I broke it. Hopefully you don't make the same mistake.

The outer barrel? Just twist it. It's reverse threaded so instead of unscrewing it with a anticlockwise turn, you need to turn it clockwise. You know the old kid's saying, Lefty loosey righty tighty. Now reverse that.
