IR strobes and ITAR

Well the question is If I order an IR strobe from the states could it be blocked due to ITAR restrictions?

I did a quick read and didn't see anything but it was a quick look.

Thanks!

Yes. They sometimes go through when bought on eBay, but usually stores just won't ship them outside CONUS.

eBay is grey area. They will sell it to you, sometimes restricted to US only, sometimes Worldwide, but once they pass custom is a 50% chance.
Sure there are other ways that are illegal..

@ Ozone06

Based on my recent research into NVG and IR technology many US sold products are ITAR restricted. Some American vendors won't sell outside of the US and others might but do so at your own risk of having it potentially stopped at the border by US Customs.

Having said that there are Canadian vendors that do sell both NVG and IR products. I'm not sure what form of IR IFF you are looking for but here are some Canadian products that you could buy:

CP Gear's Energizer taclights, they have IR IFF strobing capability

Seal Action Gear's Streamlight Sidewinder IR Taclight, it has IR IFF strobing capability

Hope this helps.

Food for thought,

Ordering ITAR items from the US is a one way street for Canadians.

Canadian Customs are the ones inspecting all the items, not the US. ITAR isn't exactly in CBSA's direct mandate. In fact from my experience - they honestly don't care, unless it specifically breaks a Canadian importation law.

The individual who is going to get hit up for an ITAR fine, is the individual who attempted to export the item outside of the US without a valid license to export. They are the ones taking the risk, not the buyer.
