TM AK47 Spetsnaz (Fps Upgrade)
Hey everyone,
So I just managed to land a TM AK47 B Spetsnaz which is pretty awesome, it definitely won't be a gun I will be selling now that I have it It's had no work done to it which is a plus since it gives me a hobby and I was looking into upgrading it to shoot at a higher fps. I'm looking to bring it up to 400 fps, anyone have an idea where I should start. From talking to a few other people I know that I will need to instal a new spring, aluminum piston head with bearing, metal bushings, metal spring guide with bearing, Metal Cylinder Head.... I have had no luck finding a kit though with all these parts (at least in Canada)... also since this isn't my area of expertise I'm not sure if it is worth consulting a gun doctor. Any help appreciated

Chrono it first to see if you need to "bring it up". It's more likely you may need to bring it down. Also, 400 fps is a limit, not a goal.
I assume you're looking for accuracy over a reasonable distance (40-60 m). If that is your goal, then velocity isn't your primary concern - it's flight stability. Look at an inner barrel swap to a tightbore & hopup rubber/bucking replacement for lift/flight stability before considering a spring swap. A tightbore will net you probably +20 fps from less air being lost while the BB travels down the barrel. Higher fps without dealing with the basics of flight stability may actually result is wonkier flight behaviour. Think of it this way - you can put a more powerful engine in a car to make it travel faster, but it's handling characteristics will suck more if its tires & suspension system weren't dealt with first. |

No problem.
And get your AV done. It'll open up the board, especially the AV-only sections. |

The stuff durak listed will work, but a tightbore barrel would be a good upgrade too. Tm's come stock with nylon bushings, so you'd certainly want to get some metal bushings (Modify works good). And if you wanted you could use an M115 spring if you want but gearbox wear and tear will be greater and rof will be lower.

If you know what you're doing, are mechanically inclined, and can follow instructions and possibly figure things out on your own then yes. If not then pay a (reputable) gundoc for time + parts and get them to do it. Usually it will work out to $20-30/hr. I'd say it should cost no more than $75 + parts to do it.
Honestly though I wouldn't touch anything inside the mechbox, stock it's a really good gun. If anything just get a new hop up unit, rubber, and TBB and it should boost the FPS by about 20 more or less. If you get really courageous then get new compression parts while leaving the spring stock. It will do two things, one you may get better compression and as a result better consistency and therefore a slight FPS increase as well as accuracy, and the second is that it doesn't add any more stress to the internals due to a higher powered spring. Also keep in mind that the tightness of the barrel isn't the determining factor, it's the "trueness" of the barrel. If you have a barrel that's relatively straight vs one that's kinked in a few places the barrel that's bent will give you weird trajectories because the BB will bounce more inside the barrel while the "true" barrel will make it bounce less and give a more predictable trajectory. So just because a barrel is tight doesn't mean that it's better than a stock barrel. Get a barrel like PDI, EdGI, Laylax/Prometheus, and a new one that I've found to be pretty good which is Guarder 6.02 barrels (just make sure you swab it out to clear any dust inside the barrel otherwise it will result in BB's getting stuck). PS: You also may want to get a ported cylinder in your "FTK" (EDIT: Stands for "Full Tune-Up Kit") because the barrel of the "Beta Spetz" is shorter and you should try to match the cylinder porting with barrel length.
