BBs breaking inside hop up

Hey there,

So I'm experiencing broken BBs inside my new PDI hop up in my CA m24. Maybe once out of ten I'll fire and nothing will come out. Then for the next shot the bolt won't go all the way in because the fragments of a broken BB will hinder its movement. Then I have to take it apart, remove fragments, clean it, and put it back together for it to shoot. What could be happening for the cylinder to break BBs inside the chamber?

Upgrades are: PDI chamber, PDI W hold bucking, Madbull 6.03 TBB.

Thanks!

You should probably remove the barrel from the hopup from now on when testing your shots. First and foremost, preserving the integrity of the insides of your barrel is top priority.

What brand of BB's are you using? Wal-mart and bass-pro bb's will easily break and shatter on impact. I've never heard of them breaking inside the hop-up if they were reputable brands.

It sounds like you didn't assemble the hop-up correctly and the bb's are smashing into the barrel where the hop-up rubber is supposed to secure the bb.

Make sure there is no space to move inside the chamber where the bb sits. The bb should be firmly seated in the chamber.

I'm using 0.28 BBBastards right now. I have a bag of 0.43s waiting but haven't used them yet.

I'm unsure how I could have assembled the hop up incorrectly. It works fine most of the time. I did change the bucking, so maybe that is not put in correctly? Could that be it?

Have you had the gun checked for a gypsy curse?

This is about the third problem thread no?

If the barrel isn't pushed deep enough into the hopup chamber, it's possible for the bb to bounce around and hit the barrel instead of being held into place to enter the barrel.

If that's not it, there's a possibility that there's an alignment issue somewhere?

It probably is some kind of alignment issue since I also have a little problem fitting the mag in. I'll see about that.

Also, Danke, that pretty much sums up my experience with most guns I've had since the beginning. I never took them apart, took good care of them and yet, something always came up. Oh well.

At least it doesn't have a battery.

Heard a good saying for folks with perennial bad luck.

If he had a pet duck it would drown.

Double check that the adjustment set screws are not too far out. They can scratch the BBs and leave shavings that will jam in the chamber.

Never really liked the PDI chamber anyways...

They aren't. When they are, the nozzle gets stuck so I know right away. It might be, as RainyEyes suggested, an alignment problem. I'll take it apart, make sure the bucking is on correctly, check everything, and update tonight.

I have a PDI hop up unit in mine, and it doesn't line up perfectly with the magazine chamber. Off by maybe 1/16". I just have to twist the magazines slightly when pushing them in and it all works fine. Not saying its not an alignment issue with BBs breaking, but I think a slight offset with the hop up chamber itself and magazines is normal. I'm assuming its all good, but just in case - is your barrel an AEG one? - likely labeled for a PSG-1? The PDI chambers take AEG style barrels.

Yeah it's a Madbull 509mm 6.03. Also, don't know if it helps, but the BBs explode outside the hop up chamber, slightly behind it. It's as if the BB would roll or somehow be pushed to the back of the chamber where the nozzle would smash it when I fire. I then have to take out the bolt and let the fragments roll out. What could make the BB roll/move backwards when engaged in the chamber?

Huge, if you have too much trouble, come see me.

I built a bunch of PDI L96 over the years, maybe I can spot the problem.
