Width-wise ribbed cylinder vs. length-wise ribbed

Hey folks,

Is there any difference between width-wise ribbed cylinders and length-wise ribbed? They both seem a bit gimicky to me, but I know with a high RPS build, the width-wise ribbed cylinders can help discipate heat to a degree (pardon the pun).

Is there a real difference between the 2? I've only seen SHS length-wise ribbed cylinders, so I assume it's just for looks and offers no benefits over width-wise ribbing.

Thoughts or experiences?

I doubt the difference is noticeable in ribbed cylinders in terms of heat dissipation, it's so little extra surface area over smooth ones. The cylinder doesn't heat up significantly to cook grease or overheat the o-ring in normal use, unless you sit there on the trigger for several minutes in full auto non stop, and even then it's not that hot. The magnets in the motor would probably reach demagnitization temp before cylinder heat is a real issue.

Ribbing is not necessary. It just makes it look fancier.

If you need ribbing, it's because you're doing a shit job.

I knew I was setting things up for some sexual inuendos, so thanks for not disappointing guys! hahaha

And thanks for the info too, glad to know they're just for looks more than anything else, unless you want to go full auto for +10mins
