AEGs dont make great snipers, heck, unles syou upgrade, snipers dont sniper very well...
just grab any AEG, toss on a scope for looks, and get a tightbore. same as anyother gun, with all the advantages and disadvantages.

my set-up

all around good.

Dinendal, since you've never been around airsoft, here's a little reality check to help you with your decision:

Fields in Quebec and Ontario generally have a limit of 400 FPS for AEGs and 450 FPS for bolt action sniper rifles. Practically, the 50 FPS difference works out to maybe what, about a 20 meter range increase, maybe? (I know it's debatable, but average and ballpark...)

Now, armed with your ~15-20m advantage, if you're really proficient you'll be lucky to get off one shot per second (remember the spring is now upgraded and is now harder to cock). The guy on the other side (and he probably has buddies with him) is putting out ~700 RPM, or about 11 rounds per second. He doesn't need to be that accurate, he has volume on his side.

I strongly recommend an AEG as a first gun.

The hardest thing to get through your head when you are trying to get into the sport is that all the guns are the same. Now I know that they are not all exactly similar but anything with a barrel over about 11 inches will do the job. The mp5K and g3sas are very small barrelled gun, but anything from an mp5 to a m16 fire with the relatively same accuracy left stock. Upgrading a longer barrel will help you gain accuracy and fps, but the results are minimal. You should not be shooting for the head. One shoot anywhere will work. Plus once the BB leaves the barrel it is at the mercy of the wind. With range and accuarcy being minimal factors volume is what is important.
When choosing a gun, ask yourself what you are going to be playing most, CQB or woodland, and maybe the most important question of all, what gun looks the best to you.
An mp5 works just as well as a m4a1 in woodland as does. The m4 preform just as good as an m16, unless you are going to getting picky about a couple of inches from 30 meters.

That rant being done, the aug would be a great choice. Long barrel if you buy all that stuff, but still in a small package.

Dinendal... two recommendations; read more, type less. Your questions are already answered on this website.

Another recommendation; go to a game, see stuff in person, and make up your mind. At the same time, get age-verified.

Ok? So start reading the Frequently Asked Questions, the Reviews, etc.

Why? Because your questions get asked Every Week or even Every DAY by almost All the newbies. This is becoming spoonfeeding, we dont like doing it.

not to be mean, but people are answering the questions. thats the neat thing, it would seem that with all the people playing airsoft in canada, some actually like to answer questions, even if its the same one over and over.

keeping in mind the M4 barrel wobble in TMs

being a sniper can get kinda slow unless your in big operations, for for regular games, some that are very short, sniping isnt time effective. When the game starts and if over in 5min, the sniper doesnt get much action all the time. having an AEG upgraded with a scope allows you to have the sniper feel and be able to join in on the fast paced action.

by rushing i assume he means being able to go toe to toe with assault weapons

No rushing is a video game term. It means to run out in the open spraying at every opponent you see. Or moving quickly to a known bottle kneck and killing as many as you can before going down.

He'll learn fast that this is not a video game nor paintball and there are no bottle knecks in a wooded area.

In CQB I've used 'rushing' to great effect. Nothing better than you and 3 of your team mates taking the enemy by surprise by running up on their base (and taking over) before they know what's happened... Game was won in 5 minutes or so, with very low casualties...

Rushing seems paintballish. I dunno why but everytime i hear rushing I think of paintballers fighting in a confined space trying to fight each other off during a game of CTF maybe its cuz i don't know much about paint ball but thats what TV showed me. I agree with dirty deeds on rushing ya know. Its too video gamish too ohh..Zerg Rush...ohhh flamethrower rush...dumass...no offence i'm just making fun of video games

Keeping on subject, I would definatly recomend a G36 as his first gun.

If you plan on being a full time sniper, buy the G36 to get the feel of the game and play assault for at least 1 season. Use that time to get more cash and build your ghillie suit, because you will need both.

Than, when you have at least 800$ (for a used upgraded sniper rifle) or 1500$ for a new with upgrades sniper rifle, you will be ready to learn to snipe.

That's about what I did. Im now a full time sniper. I get a lot of kills and I enjoy the game more than anything else. I started with an AEG, wich I use in CQB now. Use it to learn the game, feel the ranges and ballistics. Most importantly, see how your prays behave! ;-)

AEG: G36 (best all around gun)
Sniper rifle: CA M24 is the standard workhorse of the sniping buisness.
Lot's of APS2 too.

Complete AEG kit for a season including everything except BBs and games fees: 1500$
(AEG, 1hicap or a couple of lowcaps, battery, charger, BDU, vest, goggles)
Complete sniper kit for a season excepting BBs and game fees: 2000+$
(ghillie suit, upgraded rifle, bush utility)

After one season, you can sell your AEG kit or keep it for CQB.

You wanted opinion, that was mine. ;-)

Some people type to answer questions, and some people type to whine and bitch about not wanting to answer questions (that were already answered anyway) instead of ignoring the thread. :smack:
