Superlube is more of a general purpose lube, Viperlube is more for high heat/load applications. I can contact our Loctite rep on Monday to see what Viperlube will do to plastic, if it's even a good application for it. I've used superlube for "o"rings and the piston in aeg's, never thought of using it for the gears. I've been using "LithEse" for the gears & bushings. One lub would simplify things greatly. Not to mention, making the process less "sticky".

It's marketed as a "synthetic lube." I've contacted them and asked them if it was silicone, they said no and wouldn't go any further into the contents of it. |

i had a bad experience with SuperLube oil and guarder hop ups... that oil makes those rubbers swell like... those things I had years ago when i was a kid where you'd drop em in a tub of water and overnight, they'll grow like 10,000 times their size.
Okay, well they didn't grow that big, but the rubber swelled enough to get royally screwed in a matter of hours. |

Thanks Skruface, I'll look out for the stuff. Have an 'AutoZone' or something like that up the street from me (not a car guy, so I'm no ex-spurt on car related stuff) so maybe they might have some. Right next door there used to be an IGA grocery store that recently closed down, yesterday driving by I saw the sign in the windows "COMING SOON: LE BARON!!!" YAY!!!!! Now I won't have to drive 15mins from home to go buy stuff there, will only have to drive 5mins! Call me happy!

no idea. i'd really have to read the label. If it's 100% SYNTHETIC, then there's a good chance that it's safe.
Petroleum distillates are more likely to break down rubber/elastomers. Some chemicals can also react adversely. The only way to really know is to try it out. |

Since plastics and elastomers can be formulated and manufactured to have a wide range of physical properties, it is recommended that compatibility for the particular grade or product formulation be established for the specific application. Well, store was closed on weekends. I'll pick up a can to find the difference between both on Tuesday.

Couldn't get ahold of our Loctite rep & our sales guys weren't sure if Viperlube work work for us or not. I found another Loctite product though, Krytox, which from what I read looks promising. And it's only about $45-50 for 2 oz. 8-O 8-O 8-O
Also, I couldn't find anything bigger than those 3 tbsp pill bottles to put Superlube in.

If anyone wants to ship a bunch of Superlube tubes to Winnipeg, we could probably get a group shipment going. :P
I thought that Superlube was manufactured by Permatex? Am I confusing it with something else?

Toastmaster were trying to find a substitute to superlube... why spend extra money if we have product here that is equivalent or better. From what i've found Viperlube clear and Superlube are pretty close to the same thing (from reading up on each). They are made from the same base, both contain teflon and are the same grade grease. The only question now is if viperlube is 100% synthetic, or if it isn't what does it contain. I emailed loctite and the people they have answering their questions know less about their product then we do (at least it appears that way).
On a different note, what do the guys at XT use? |

Contact MadMax or manchovie about a SuperLube order... I can personally attest that there's at least a hundred tubes in Bartek's house...
