Should I get the Reinforced Gear Box
hey i have an AUG and i am going to upgraded it. i am going to put in it a PDI 170% Spring, Reinforced Gears, Aluminum Piston Set, Steel Bushings, Shims. do you guys think that it is needed to get a Reinforced Gear Box or can i get by without.
Is there anyone with similar upgrade that has their stock gear box broken and is there anyone that put a lot of rounds through without braking their box. Any other upgrades i should consider getting. (careful my wallet isnt that big) Thank you all who can answer these questions |

Read the upgrade guide just above your post? That tells you what you need and don't need for an upgrade.
And why are you putting a PDI 170% in it, with that spring and your other planned upgrade parts, you'll be firing hot, so you can't use the gun on most if not all fields. (Field limit for AEG is usually 400fps, and 400fps is more like a guideline than a goal. It's a game, it's not about hurting people) |

Should you get reforced, if you can afford, why not. Is it a smart buy, that's a whole different story. Is there a particular reason you want it to shoot that hard? Just upgrading to a SP110 (PDI 130/140%) and metals bushings will give you more room for upgrades later on, and would be sufficient for field play. |

whatever the point isnt am i over the limit. the point is i want to know if getting the gear box is worth it. I already know they have 400 fps is the field limit. I am just asking if anyone has had trouble with there gear box. I have researched it a bit and i havent seen any patterns of upgrading to 170 (or 150 in thephenom's case) spring cause their box to crack. does anyone have any problems with a slight upgrade making the gear box to crack

Dont bother, the aug has a V3 mechbox...Mechbox cracking was a problem with V2.
As for the 400fps thing, some places consider it a big deal. Some places will turn you away if you hit 401fps. It may not be a big deal, but since its a rule, its one that has to be fallowed. They allow you on with 405fps, then why not allow the guy with 415fos, or 420fps, etc. PDI spings are oldschool. Go for a prometheus MS110sp. They are non-linear springs and are more consistant, and dont loose their power as fast as the PDI springs. The 110sp should land you in the 361 zone. With a tightbore, spring guide and a few other items, it can land you in the 390 zone. The idea is to get as close to 400fps without going over. |

A better idea is to get between 340 and 360 FPS with a perfectly adjusted hopup. I've seen guns with that level of power that outshoot 400fps guns consistently.
Keep in mind that 400fps is a maximum LIMIT, put there for safety and mechanical reasons. It's not a goal to achieve. |

PDI 170% springs I've seen pretty much shoot around 390ish with 0.20g BBs. But since PDI has gone all screwy and has no consistancy between springs (I've measured about a half dozen PDI 150% springs, they have ranged in length from 6 3/8" long....... netted 350fps in an MP5, all the way up to impossible to install 7" long, also the wire diameter had increased too), some 170% will shoot 390fps, others might go as high as 450-460fps. Just avoid PDI springs period, there are more spring types out there that will give you a guaranteed fps once installed, rather than waste money on various PDI springs to find the good ones.

My P90 came preupgraded with a PDI 170%, it averages 400.1fps but it has absolutly nothing in it other than the spring. I want to stick in a bearing piston head, bearing spring guide, tightbore, and getting the spring downgraded so I can sit in the 360-380fps range. Sometimes your guns fps will jump for a few shots for no reason, if those are the shots you get chronied with, your gun is now unable to be used, stick to sub 385fps and your golden.
Also I know of a guys G36 (ver.3 mechbox) that shoots 420fps and has gone through hundreds of thousands of rounds including thousands of dry fire shots and its still fine. You shouldnt have any worries about cracking a ver.3 mechbox unless you really abuse your gun, you got a lemon, or you are upgrading far past the limits on Canadian fields. |

We allow 425 on the local fields out here, 400 is not Canada wide people. I know of fields that allow higher then that for full auto.

OUr limit is about 425. But I don't think there is anbody shooting over 400 anyhow. You don't really need to. Most guys I know run in the 350-380 range.
Typically the guys running over 400 are using sniper/marksman type guns and not unleashing a fury of BB's downrange. |

guys the fps limit was not my question. it was should i get a reinforced gear box.

NO. the v3 gearbox is fairly beefy and capable of withstanding that spring.
